2 Obama officials: No guarantee taxes won't go up

Read their lips: Mixed signals from Obama team on taxes | csmonitor.com
Although Barack Obama campaigned on a pledge of no tax hikes on the middle class, top administration officials on Sunday appeared to open the door to rethinking that position. Then on Monday the White House press secretary said the door really isn’t open.

Either way, the discussion of possible tax hikes is already out of the stable. Economists generally agree with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner that the nation is on an unsustainable fiscal path, and that hard choices will need to be made – although the reckoning may not occur on Mr. Obama’s watch. Some say the magnitude of the hole to be filled is so large that spending cuts alone are unlikely to do the job.

So either Dear Leader is truly Prez Doofus, or Tiny Tim is stuck in full retard mode, or Dear Leader is doing the Kerry Two-Step of being opposed to taxes after being for taxes after being opposed to taxes (all in the same news cycle).

Either way....Americans are well advised to cling to their wallets along with their guns and their Bibles.

Taxes had better go up. We were running on credit back when the bailouts were going on. Since then we've tacked on top the stimulus and health care. I for one don't want to find out what the limit on that credit card from China is.
I have a better idea:

Stop spending more money than you take in.

That's a great idea, but maybe first we better fix the mess left by 8 years of Republican incompetence.

Just pointing out that your "ideal government" has already been shown not to work.
Wow. A false premise -and- a non-sequitur, all in one line of text.
Well done!

Its a great idea, period.
But then, you're only interetsed in furthering the power of your masters, rather than acting on good ideas.

Democrats don't have masters, don't confuse us with the Borg Cube you call the RNC

so you would prefer no taxes and no services, and no government, just you and your gun against the world. Well, unfortunately that is not an option, the citizens of the US decided against that position about 150 years ago.
I have FINALLY figured out your problem!
See, I have thought all this time that you you do not know how to read.
I now realize that it's not that you cannot read, its that you simply refuse to understand what someone writes.

Fix the so-called "mess" by making things worse so that the previous administration looks like Camalot? ... yeah, great plan there.

You mean when we generally had a robust economy, and killed tens of thousands of murderous savages bent on our destruction far away?

Reasonably well.

 ...

Pardon me for interjecting, but 'you guys' currently in power are making 'us' look GREAT! Lol, it was far far better then than now... and you can keep the change, this comment is tax-free... well, that is until Obama, Pelosi et al. find a way to tax this too!

I don't think there is any upcoming President that can be worse than Bush.

When you get me a President who starts 2 more wars, then we'll talk

That's just partisan hackery.
The Obama, 7 months in, has managed to do a great many number of things the left has chided Bush for, but to a greater degree.

When you get me a President who starts 2 more wars, then we'll talk
GWB "started" exactly as many wars as WJBC.

That's just partisan hackery.

Not really.
I don't think i can recall people hating a ex President as much as Bush.
We'd have to dig back decades to get the same polls

I have to make it clear, i hated bush before it became 'cool' by the left to dislike him.
2003, beat that

Not really.
Yes, really, for the reasons I described -- if you "hate" GWB because of X Y Z and you do not then "hate" The Obama to a greater degree because of a greater degree of X Y Z, then its just partisan hackery.

I also see you completely ignored my comment that GWB "started" exactly as many wars as WJBC.

It didn't affect me in no way.

I hate GWB for many reasons, not least his actions.

I also hate many things Obama is doing, who i think is acting stupid on alot of them. Not least continuing the war

Well, when you decide that you hate The Obama more than you hate GWB because He did all the things that you hate GWB for, just to a greater degree, you let me know.

the comment a couple posts up is extremely typical of obama's "supporters"

that is, they are very lukewarm

good for them, they have integrity

my point, tho, is about obama---his "supporters" almost universally have themselves major problems with what he's doing

"i too am bothered by the bailouts and bonuses"

"i also am offended by the hiring of lobbyists and tax cheats"

"i as well worry about the spending and deficits"

these are the typical sentiments expressed by "supporters" in chatrooms across america

obama's opponents meanwhile are RED HOT

i here attempt no petty point scoring vs our friends on the other side

i note this obvious lay of the land as it relates to THE PRESIDENT

because it is super revealing

thanks, cliff

Will do, but i doubt it'll occur anytime soon :2wave:

The only thing i hate him more than Bush on right now is how he treats Britain.
But Bush was no saint either. It doesn't matter who is the President, no one apart from perhaps Regan truley respected the ties between UK and US

Not his continuation of the warrantless wiretap programs?
Not his continuation of the war in Iraq?
Not his skyrocketing deficits?
Not his broken promises regarding integrity, taxes, etc, all of which were supposed to represent "change"?

And thus: partisan hackery.

Taxes. Am i american? I have my own bloody debt with my country to worry about tyvm where i am being taxed to the hilt already.
Same for deficit. I have my hands full with Brown to be worrying about Obama.

Iraq was retarded and wiretapping is ****ed up. But hey, your congress voted for patriot act

obama's treatment of the brits is BIZARRE

he disses them at every turn

sends back the churchill bust, makes a cheap present out of a blockbuster gift card, an ipod that's programmed wrong

sends his wife over to fanny pat the queen

for what?

what possible gain can be gleaned from dissing our only remaining allies worth anything, most of whom once loved him?

there is only one explanation

obama bares his teeth at the brits in ways only an ex colonial could understand

he IS his father's son

a kenyan to the core

evidently

he sure doesn't understand america

trying to raise taxes on energy, both production and consumption, thru cap and trade---in the middle of a depression

apologizing around the world for the red, white and blue

denigrating us behind our backs for our bullets and bibles

including illegals in his expansion of medical insurance

yanking e-verify from plan pelosi

taxing benefits

deficit spending to the tune of 12.65% of gdp

i could go on, believe me

obama does not understand the american people

but he sure seems in touch with those who still harbor anti imperial sentiments from an era long dead

weird

So tell me why you don't hate The Obama for these things?

I dislike him but he may change his way, he is only 7 months in.
At least i gave Bush 2 years before i made my mind up he was a waste of space
