LaGuardia Airport Terminal Evacuated in New York City, One Person in Custody - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News -

NEW YORK Authorities say LaGuardia Airport's main terminal was evacuated after a man came into the New York City terminal with a fake bomb in a bag.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman John Kelly says the terminal was evacuated at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday after the man approached security in the airport's C concourse.

It wasn't clear if the man made a threat, but Kelly said security officials say he "was just acting crazy."

Police say the device in the man's bag was a few batteries and wires, but was not dangerous.

Police planned to open the main terminal by 9 a.m. (1300GMT). Kelly says the C concourse, serving United, United Express and American Eagle airlines, would remain closed as a crime scene.
