Iran Begins Trial of Postelection Protesters

Iran Begins Trial of Postelection Protesters - Iran | Map | News - FOXNews.com

TEHRAN, Iran Opposition political activists and protesters are in court in Tehran Saturday on charges of rioting and conspiring against the ruling system in the country's first trial following the disputed presidential election, Iran's state media reported.

The trial underlines the government's efforts to bring a close to anti-government demonstrations that have persisted since the disputed June 12 presidential elections.

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians marched in days of street protests after the election, denouncing official results that declared President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner.

Iran's opposition maintains Ahmadinejad stole the vote from opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi by engaging in massive fraud, but its demonstrations have been ruthlessly suppressed leaving hundreds, possibly more, in prison.

So where is the World on this huh, I know gone on Holiday nothing to see here folks move along.

I'm guessing that ask by the press to make a comment Mr. Obama will sya its an internal thing of Iran and he doesn't want to meddle.

    I agree with Obama.
    This is a internal thing.
Would we accept it if Iran started preaching to us on how to sentence our citizens?

God help them. I fear the government is going to make the worst kind of examples of them.

Why is it the world's job to interfere with an Iranian trial? In any case... what kind of trial could these people possibly receive? It is the job of Iranians to uprise and stop this mockery of justice.

People need to stop calling for invasions everytime a foreign nation does a little thing they don't like. The U.S. army aren't your personal goon squad.

Because 1 the trail's are a farce 2 the Election were Rigged so hence any protesting was the proper thing to do and they should have never been arrest for excersing their Human right to Free Speech.

Next thing your going ot say it was alright for Irasn Security Force to shot and kill protester now right

    Why surprised from me?

I do not want Iranians or Arabs telling me how to sentence, the laws or run my country. I expect my Government to give them the same distance.

You don't get it. Regardless if the trials are a farce or not, and regardless if the election was rigged or not, it is not our job to police Iran. There is no international law which says a rigged election means we get to invade. Get that fact through your head first and foremost.

If an American election were rigged, people would take up arms and demand a re-election. There would be a revolution. Iranians need to take the same kind of action against their government. It's their revolution, and our own interference will destroy the legitimacy of their own efforts.

You also forget that it was CIA interference that brought them down this oppressive path in the first place. The last thing Iran needs is more "help" from the West.

I agree that it is not any nation's job to interfere in the Iranians domestic affairs, it is obviously the UN's job and they're not doing their job right.

The same UN which Israel sometimes complains interfers in their domestic issues?

UN is not there to interfer on every country in the world. You forget who makes up UN, other nations. It is by no stretch of the word, neutral.
