The fight continued through the home and eventually back into the garage. When police arrived they arrested Barnett and transported him to Western Baptist Hospital for the gunshot, but he ultimately died.

The McCracken County Police Department reports the 18-year-old was under the influence of Psilocybin Mushrooms, or "Magic Mushrooms" as they're called on the street, and thought he was inside his own home. At one point, he even called the homeowner "Dad".

Stupid hurts.... This time it cost this kid his life. The homeowner I am sure is feeling like crap, but he did the right thing.... This is a sad story all around...

Damn. That psilocybin's the very bitch.
Apparently, the sailor who shot another sailor at Camp Pendleton earlier this month may have been under the influence of it, too.
The one time I tried 'shrooms, I had the sense to get in bed, and stay there. And even so, I almost poked my husband's eyes out, and he almost let me.

Those things are seriously mind-altering, more so than any other drug I've ever encountered.
What a sad situation.

ALRIGHT! Lets legalize drugs! WOOHOO! OH YEAH! WOOT-WOOT!

Very, very sad story.:( But that is what ya get for being a dumbass in life and doing stupid stuff.

Poor homeowner now has to live with the fact that he shot and killed someone. That sucks big time. I hope he does realize he did what he had to do and he had no choice in the matter at the time.

Or legalise them but only in a controlled enviroment, sans guns.

THIS WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED IF HE DIDN'T HAVE A GUN!!!

It works both ways.:2wave:

No, actually it doesnt. See having a gun is a Constitutional right set out in the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution.

So no, it doesnt work both ways.

Oh that makes sense. How do you control someone when they think they are being attacked by a big giant blue smurf?

Yeah, good luck with that.

Do smurfs come in other colors besides blue?

You know, this isn't all that bad an idea as long as the guns are still legal in places where people aren't out of their head on hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Sure. Just give out licences to sell these things on the condition that the premises in question dont allow guns sharp objects etc. and have staff to keep an eye on people. Maybe add padded walls;)

It's kind of hard to outlaw, restrict, or "control" them when they grow wild, and don't have to be cultivated, unlike pot.

The family woke to the sound of the alarm system, indicating the door to the attached garage had been opened. The homeowner went outside to investigate, when he heard his wife inside screaming.

He ran back into the home where his wife told him the intruder, later identified as 18-year-old Andrew Caleb Barnett, was inside their attached garage attempting to get into the home through a wooden door with a window, according to police
.

Why was the woman screaming? I mean, at all...without being assaulted? What was there to scream about at that point? Trying to scare the intruder away or just distract her husband so he gets killed?

The homeowner reportedly yelled several times that he had a gun, telling Barnett not to come inside. However, Barnett continued to make advances toward the man.

So were these like sexual advances or was the teen reenacting Thriller?

Police say the homeowner fired one shot at Barnett, hitting him in the arm, and going into his chest area. Barnett apparently fell to the floor but got back up fighting the homeowner, at one point, biting him in the arm.

Only one shot? And with a pistol I bet. No no no we've gon over this, this is not how you deal with zombies, even horny Thriller zombies making advances at you. You need to cut off your hand and replace it with a chainsaw. Shop smart, shop S-Mart.

And free water. Other beverages, of course, could be a valid source of income. And highly profitable at that.

Fair point. Though i imagine that if a legal option were provided people would be more inclined to take due to convience. There would be a stronger case for something like this when it came to LSD etc.

The target market would be more likely to utilize such a facility if- instead of touting "safety" as its main attraction- one made it really "fun". You know, lots of psychedelic stuff to look at and play with, cool music, trippy movies to watch, black light and body paint. Padded walls are fine; hell, put a moonwalk in there.
The "staff" would need to just sort of blend into the woodwork, unless needed, otherwise they'd cause inhibition and paranoia.

Another drug infested person removed from the gene pool. Good.

I do, however, feel sorry for this stupid person's family.

I blame the police, and the homeowner.

OBVIOUSLY this kid thought he was at home, so everyone else acted stupidly...

I'll bet the boy's father feels terrible, hearing that.
I'm sure he would give anything to have been there to help his son.
But it isn't his fault.
I agree, and it is probably making it a heck of a lot worse for the guy who shot him.
