Food safety bill falls short of passing by six votes

Food safety bill comes up short in House vote - Politics AP - MiamiHerald.com

I watched the bill being proposed on C-SPAN and the voting process. The bill only failed by a small margin. Was this the right choice for the American public?
"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language...No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." - John Donne

Yes I believe it was based on this...

On Wednesday night, House leaders rescheduled the bill for another vote on Thursday; this time, under rules requiring only majority approval for passage.
The measure was being rewritten almost to the last minute Wednesday, and skeptics complained that few lawmakers had a chance to read it.
More examples of the failures of our current system. Take a vote on a bill that no one has read. If that vote failed just lower the standards to get it passed and try again.
