People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
"He who does not think himself worth saving from poverty and ignorance by his own efforts, will hardly be thought worth the efforts of anybody else." -- Frederick Douglass, Self-Made Men (1872)
Let's see some links for those numbers, too.
Out of ALL those casualties, how many were caused by Iraqis? On the other hand we have caused between:
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Family_Health_Survey"]Iraq Family Health Survey[/ame]: 151,000 violent deaths
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancet_surveys_of_Iraq_War_casualties"]Lancet survey[/ame]: 601,027 violent deaths out of 654,965 excess deaths
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORB_survey_of_Iraq_War_casualties"]Opinion Research Business survey[/ame]: 1,033,000 violent deaths as a result of the conflict.
So depending on how you look at it, we the U.S. have caused between 150,000 to 1,033,000 deaths as a result of our intervention. God I hope you are not a right to lifer.....

During my undergrad a couple of Iraqis were in one of my history classes. They said it was a breath of fresh air to be able to learn in an environment free of persecution.
The U.S. has no reason to fear these people, and if the Iraqi government is funding their exchange then so much the better. These people will come to the West, learn in free environments, and take that experience home with them.
The Iraqi gov. is announcing this so blissfully because at the current time it is in desperate need of positive press on its humanitarian efforts, given the recent crackdowns following the elections.
