Obama says regrets remark in racially charged case

Obama made his comments after talking on the telephone to Sgt. James Crowley, the Cambridge, Massachusetts, police officer who made the arrest, and discussing inviting Crowley and Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates to the White House for a beer.

"Because this has been ratcheting up and I obviously helped to contribute ratcheting it up, I wanted to make clear in my choice of words I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sgt. Crowley specifically," Obama said. "And I could have calibrated those words differently."

while not a full apology, the writing is on the wall. The O-man, knows he effed up and is now in full damage control mode. Do you think this is enough, or should it be a clear apology?

What Obama messed with was telling the truth. He slipped and told America what he actually thought instead of what would have been politically safe. It's just another insight as to who the man really is.

A white house beer is a pretty cheap price to pay if this all goes away.

Thats what you get when he gets off his handlers teleprompter.

You think he could have 'calibrated' this apology differently too.

Why don't he just talk to 'the people' like they were commoners instead of Hahvard law students.

Yes, he really is a racist race baiting asshole..... Agreed.

Not enough for me. When you call someone stupid and want to walk it back, you don't say "I need to calibrate my words differently", you say "I'm sorry."

apologize?

anything that takes time away from UHC is fine by me. Keep up the diversionary tactics I say!

"I'm sorry...sorta"

I thought there was a lot of stupidity from both parties involved in the arrest.

If Obama's statement is acceptable to the police he offended then I feel it's sufficient.

I'm betting the cops he offended could give a rat's ass about what Obama has to say, now.

I failed to see any reason why the president needed to comment on the situation to begin with. Perhaps his true feelings showed a little bit here and we see that he is a minority that feels blacks are unjustly treated by a white society.

Dont get me wrong im all for equality but when equality becomes reparations for the deeds of our ancestors (and that doesnt even apply to alot of us), it has gone to far.

Are you now denying that minorities are NOT treated differently? Is that your argument?

Why are you treating minorities differently?

Me either.

I think the problem is too many minorities want to be treated different. (special kinda different).

If it weren't for racism, Gates would have had to just sit there and take it...just like everybody else.

BINGO!

I've said all along that this case wasn't about racism. Its about the arrogance of police officers who feel that they have the right to do whatever they want and GOD FORBID that anyone question them, yell at them, not become submissive to their unlimited authority or deny them unlimited respect.

Just to be clear....not all police. The vast majority of the police that I deal with daily are very good and hardworking people. Unfortunately, it are the pompous assholes who's arrogance and attitude know no bounds that make the rest look bad. Cops should take it upon themselves to help weed out the bad ones. Unfortunately, the code of silence prevents it.

of course most of us are smart enough to treat them with kid gloves.
