A passenger plane has burst into flames on landing at an airport in northern Iran, killing 17 passengers, state media has reported.

The burning plane skidded off the runway of the airport in the city of Mashhad, said the IRNA news agency.

Provincial official Ghahraman Rashid said another 19 people had been injured in the incident and the remaining passengers were evacuated.

The crash comes 10 days after another Iranian plane crash killed 168 people.

Thats the second time this month alone that people have been killed because of technical issues on Iranian airways. How the hell do these planes past mechanical tests? Not to mention past tragedies by this very same airliner. The EU needs to consider banning all inbound flights from Iranian airways before something like this happens over a European city.

I watched a documentary on BBC a few weeks ago about Iran and one of the ex Presidents was explaining how the embargo placed upon it has made it so that they couldn't even replace spare parts of their plane incase it was mistaken as them building a generator

Really? Woah, interesting. They should really get Boeing officials to check it out though. Im sure there is an international aviation authority that checks these planes anyway, isnt there? I dont see why it should be a problem. Btw, i have bags under my eyes literally (woke up at 6), last night just didnt end :rofl

The aircraft in both this incident and also the last incident where one crashed with 168 loss of life was not an aircraft built by or maintained by Boeing.
Both these aircraft were Russian-built Ilyushin aircraft.
That particular company no longer turns out these aircraft.
Russia obeys the UN Sanctions that forbid the sale of spare parts (even assuming any are still in existence for this type of aircraft) to Iran.

Iran is unable to manufacture the parts that are required to keep their (remaining) aircraft airworthy, unfortunately even if they were able to purchase spare parts and get them into Iran, they no longer have anyone with the required Licenses available to fit these parts to their scrapheap of aircraft.
