Who's to blame in sex assault of girl? Father says nobody

Arriving officers said they saw several boys running from the scene, and were able to detain one and later identify three more.

Hill said all the boys, ages 9, 10, 13 and 14, have been arrested and put in a juvenile corrections center. All four have apparently admitted to planning the assault and have been charged in the case.

One of the boys, identified as 14-year-old Steven Tuopeh, is being tried as an adult for the crimes, facing two counts of sexual assault and one count of kidnapping.

The 13-year-old suspect is accused of three counts of sexual assault, and one count of kidnapping. The 10-year-old is accused of two counts of sexual assault and one count of kidnapping. The 9-year-old suspect is accused of one count of sexual assault. All of the crimes listed are class 2 felonies.

According to authorities, the girl's parents said they blame their daughter for the assault and for bringing shame on her family.

Where do these ****ing savages get the idea that the girl child is at fault for getting gang raped and why, why is police department:

Police are exploring what impact culture may have played in the incident and in the parent's response.

Really? What purpose would learning this help in explaining savagry?

Sometimes people in this world make me sick.

Police need to be exploring ways to charge the parents (including those of the victim) with abuse and neglect. The four boys are to blame, and the parents are to blame for letting the boys think that this was an ok way to behave.

Culture my ass. I don't give a **** about culture. They can explore prison culture when they become Bubba's bitch in prison for all I care.

It's too bad they can't throw the girl's father in prison for being a dickhole for blaming her as well. What kind of ****-for-brains father does that??

I find it Ironic that the father thinks SHE brought shame to the family....

It honestly makes me wonder what her family's deal is. Like are they a part of some weird religion or do they just have weird values or what?

Exactly, I don't have any children but if anyone did something like that to one of my future children, or even the children of my immediate family I would have the authorities on notice that they need to get there before me to prevent a horrific event, I certainly wouldn't be blaming the child, that's just......beyond comprehension.

Probably Muslim.... I know in some muslim cultures this is the prevaling logic. I think Laila can give us better insight if she sees this thread.

Yup, sounds like some backwater African Muslim thinking.

He's from west Africa, so I would suspect it's part of his learned culture, where women are generally regarded as second-class. It's something that he's going to have to unlearn, if he wants to fit in with American culture.

Why the Hell are we letting sub-humans like this into the Country?

Femi Babarinde, an African Studies professor from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, said it is normal to feel shame because of a rape in the family in the Liberian culture.

"When you look at the shame culture in African societies it basically means something negative happened and it affects not only that individual [the victim] but the family and extended family," said Babarinde. "They may be reacting to the attention that this will get and the knowledge of this within the community that could be a source of embarrassment."

:smash:

Probably the stupid police's fault. Let's ask Obama.

hmm in this case, its probably mor cultural, than religious, still moronic.

This is disgusting.
I hope the Father goes to a cell next to the rapists who he is basically trying to protect.

It is more prevelant in African or rather tribal cultures but it is also in numerous places in the world. Kurds have a history of honor killing and in ME with Arabs and Asia.
Religion has little to do with it Reverend.

That poor girl. First she's sexually assaulted, and then she has her parents blaming HER, not her assailants! :2mad:

It would seem to me that the parents are being negligent in denying her the emotional support she so desperately needs, but child abuse laws do not seem to cover emotional neglect and/or abuse.

If someone raped my little girl,,,I'd want Blood.

Your mentality and that of others differ wildly.
I hope my Dad would react the same way but i doubt it.
Honor in tribes lie with the females and if a female is disgraced, it disgraces the family.
I'm not saying it is right, i am trying to explain it

Wow, that's inconceivable to me that the father would say that. I don't even understand how someone could have the mentality of blaming their daughter for a gang rape against her. I can't begin to say what the hell is wrong with that man, or how in any country that would be an acceptable reaction.

I'm not usually one to judge other people's cultures, but if your culture tells you to blame your daughter for getting gang-raped, your culture deserves to be eradicated with extreme prejudice.

Makes me want to just deny entry to people from those sorts of cultures.

The Good Reverend judges other cultures all the time, and I judge this one pitiful.

I don't care to be honest, such people are already in every country. What the country should do, indeed has a duty to do is re enforce to these idiots who are stuck in the middle ages that their country does not tolerate such attitudes and come down on them like a ton of bricks if they break the law. Culture does not make you immune from the law.

Allow me to play devils advocate here.

If a teenager goes into the Chicago projects to buy heroin, and gets murdered; are the teenagers actions (to go into an unsafe neighborhood) partially to blame? I am not making an excuse here for the criminal activity, just bringing into perspective accountability.

Blame? no, Foolish and chose poorly? yes.

If the family is from Liberia, one shouldn't automatically assume they are Muslim. Only 20 percent of Liberia's populaton is Muslim. Most are either Christian, various indigenous religions or combinations thereof.

She is very stupid but it doesn't make excuses for what was done.
We all should have the freedom to go where we want without expecting death around the corner.
