    Venezuela 'fuelling drugs trade'

BBC NEWS | Americas | Venezuela 'fuelling drugs trade'

Corruption in Venezuela's government and military is allowing drug trafficking into the US to flourish, a US congressional report has said.

Venezuela provides "a safe haven" for Colombian armed groups operating along its border, the report says.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has dismissed the report's findings, labelling it "a new lie" from the US.

The US says the annual flow of Colombian cocaine through Venezuela quadrupled between 2004 and 2007.

The report, by the Government Accountability Office, which is an arm of Congress, says corruption in Venezuela has extended a "lifeline" to Colombian rebels who profit through the drugs trade using sanctuaries along the border.

It's their plan to screw the United States' future by screwing the new generations of teenagers.

What actions do you think the U.S. should take to stem the flow of these drugs?

Produce its own drugs, and sell them on a lower price.

I find it hilarious that he claims the U.S. is making-up false stories about drug movement. Oil has dropped, many private companies have pulled-out of the country due to government takeovers, so what do they have left, drugs!

Another reason, among many, to decriminalize drugs.

"Oil has dropped, many private companies have pulled-out of the country due to government takeovers, so what do they have left, drugs! "

Fairly apt description of this country, now.

Drugs are a great problem. The last three Presidents of these United States have admitted to using illegal drugs. So how are we, The People, going to fight something that our very leaders are using? The "War on Drugs" is over. We lost.

Besides, most Americans just make fun of the use of drugs. but then most Americans are clueless.
I came into this world fighting, screaming and covered in someone else's blood. I have no problem going out the same way.

    Re: Venezuela 'fuelling drugs trade'

I have pondered the question of legalizing drugs many times and must admit that I am torn. I see the uselessness of fighting the use of these drugs, and feel that if people are dumb enough to use the hard stuff, then they deserve to reap the effects. Howeverm I worry that to legalize all would indeed put youth at risk. Saying that drug abuse is alright by legalizing it, may indeed open children and teens up to influences that may not have otherwise have been. I understand that most will experiment with marijuana, but cocaine, heroine, and meth scare me to death. I suppose if parents were more involved in their childrens lives and cared to be responsible for them, there would not be as much to worry about. But in today's economy, both parents must work, if there are two parents, and the ability to oversee children effectively has been somewhat diminished. So, I am on the fence.
