Top scholar Gates arrested in Mass., claims racism

Obama was making a joke about what would happen if he somehow "lost his keys" and tried to jimmy his way into the White House. He's right, if that happened, Rest Assured he would be shot.
I'll give $20 to try and jimmy the door to the White House.

someone didn't watch the news conference.... :lamo

You were talking about his healthcare speech now you're talking about the news conference make up your mind. So making a joke about possibly being shot for breaking into his home is "race-baiting" even though it doesn't fit the definition and you get all serious. But were you as serious when someone made a joke about not finding wmd's under the table?

......"In an interview last night, Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas said it was ac curate that Whalen did not mention race in her 911 call. He acknowledged that a police report of the incident did include a race reference. The report says Whalen observed “what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the front porch’’ of a Ware Street home on July 16.

That reference is there, said Haas, because the police report is a summary. Its descriptions - like the race of the two men - were collected during the inquiry, not necessarily from the initial 911 call, he said.".......even if she did mention race-it wouldn't matter. This is just another case of black whining.
Source: Boston.com SICK of VICTIM mentality.

So now this begs to wonder what else the police report might have gotten wrong. The police report attributed to her the description of the men being african american. So what else could have been a mistake. Black whining? The guy was IDed in his own home and the situation blew up. If the cops just left after identifying Gates the situation would have ended. Why is it you feel that citizens do not have rights on their own property?

I think you are picking and choosing which parts of which story you want to use.

Now isn't that what everything here has been doing? So far we've really only heard the cops side of the story and everyone seems to go off that.

Playing obtuse won't help you.....

Lerxst, you seem like you would be a real valuable LEO. You clearly had more then the 18 month crash course that is so prevalent in society today!

Damn just saw this while researching the thread.

Thanks!

You're right, but you'll also agree that experience doesn't necessarily translate to ethical execution of your job duties.

No. That comes with integrity.

Have you seen the transcript of the 911 call?

The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan

911 OPERATOR: 9-1-1, what is the exact location of your emergency?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Hi, I'm actually at (inaudible) street in Cambridge, the house number is 7 Ware Street.

911 OPERATOR: OK ma'am, your cell phone cut out, what's the address again?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Sorry, it's 7 Ware Street. That's W-A-R-E Street.

911 OPERATOR: The emergency is at 7 Ware Street, right?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Well no, I'm sorry. 17. Some other woman is talking next to me but it's 17, 1-7 Ware Street.

911 OPERATOR: What's the phone number you're calling me from?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: I'm calling you from my cell phone number.

911 OPERATOR: All right, tell me exactly what happened?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Um, I don't know what's happening. I just had an older woman standing here and she had noticed two gentlemen trying to get in a house at that number, 17 Ware Street. And they kind of had to barge in and they broke the screen door and they finally got in. When I had looked, I went further, closer to the house a little bit after the gentlemen were already in the house. I noticed two suitcases. So, I'm not sure if this is two individuals who actually work there, I mean, who live there.

911 OPERATOR: You think they might have been breaking in?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: I don't know 'cause I have no idea. I just noticed.

911 OPERATOR: So you're saying you think the possibility might have been there? What do you mean by barged in? You mean they kicked the door in?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: No, they were pushing the door in. Like, umm, the screen part of the front door was kind of like cut.

911 OPERATOR: How did they open the door itself with the lock?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: They, I didn't see a key or anything 'cause I was a little bit away from the door. But I did notice that they pushed their (interrupted).

911 OPERATOR: And what do the suitcases have to do with anything?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: I don't know, I'm just saying that's what I saw.

911 OPERATOR: Do you know what apartment they broke into?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: No, they're just they first floor. I don't even think that it's an apartment. It's 17 Ware Street. It's a house, it's a yellow house. Number 17. I don't know if they live there and they just had a hard time with their key but I did notice that they kind of used their shoulder to kind of barge in and they got in. I don't know if they had a key or not because I couldn't see from my angle. But, you know, when I looked a little closely that's what I saw.

911 OPERATOR: (inaudible) guy or Hispanic?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Umm.

911 OPERATOR: Are they still in the house?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: They're still in the house, I believe, yeah.

911 OPERATOR: Were they white, black or Hispanic?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Umm, well there were two larger men, one looked kind of Hispanic but I'm not really sure. And the other one entered and I didn't see what he looked like at all. I just saw it from a distance and this older woman was worried thinking someone's breaking in someone's house, they've been barging in. And she interrupted me and that's when I had noticed otherwise I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all, to be honest with you. So, I was just calling 'cause she was a concerned neighbor, I guess.

911 OPERATOR: OK, are you standing outside?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: I'm standing outside, yes.

911 OPERATOR: All right, the police are on the way, you can meet them then they get there. What's your name?

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Yeah, my name is (deleted).

911 OPERATOR: All right, we're on the way.

FEMALE WITNESS CALLER: Ok. All right, I guess I'll wait. Thanks.

For me, at least, it puts a different spin on things.

Well, if you have great tits, the last one might be okay. But none of you men should do it.

Buzzkill.

There goes my afternoon session of doughnut ring toss.

I'd love it if this cop sued Obama for defamation. Can you imagine the circus? I'd tell Obama to shove that beer up his ***.

Based on the 911 call, I think the cop isn't on particularly solid ground here.

Based on the 911 call, I think the cop isn't on particularly solid ground here.

The 9-1-1 call stated the witness saw people breaking into a house.

The officer arrives and sees men in a house with a broken front door, he asks for ID, and Mount Bigot explodes in his face.

The cop did just fine and got to haul the bigot away to jail, too. What do you think he did wrong, show up or ask for ID?

The cop should have invited the prof to sit down in his car and talk it over. That's what i would have done. I'd have said something like the following:

Sir, i'm not here because of your skin color, or my skin color, or the skin color of your neighbors cat. I'm here because somebody called me because you weren't entering your house as normal people do 99.9% of the time. If you had seen somebody you don't know "breaking in," wouldn't you call the cops? It'd be your civic duty to do that, you know.

I was concerned for your safety, and so i asked you about the other individuals. No, it's not my business who you have in your house, but as a police officer i want to make sure that you're safe, and that you are aware that there are others in your residence. What if i didn't ask you about the other men in your house, and just left, and then you, not knowing that you were being burglarized, went in and had harm come to you from those individuals? I asked you about the other people in your home, not to invade your privacy, but to ensure your safety. It's my job to determine whether you might be in harms way and to help you with that threat if it exists.

You have convinced me that you live here. If i can't convince you that i was just doing my job, and not doing my job because of your race, then i'll have to live with that. But you need to get about your business and i need to get about my business. There's nothing to get excited about as i was just doing what i've been trained to do, and what i would have done with a person who was white, black, or any other color. Could you please treat me as if i was your own skin color, so that we can get past this accusation?

I want to put this incident into the perspective of how a NORMAL non-arrogant, non-race baiting person would have handled the whole situation in less than five minutes:

Cop: Sir, I am responding to a burglary call and need to see your identification.

Individual: Why certainly officer. I am the owner. I was on a business trip and upon my return could not find my keys so the driver assisted me in getting in. Here you go.

Cop: Thank you sir, if you don't mind I just need to call this in and verify that the information is correct.

Individual: Not a problem and thank you for responding. There have been a lot of burglaries in the area recently and it is nice to know you guys are here checking things out.

Cop: Here's your ID back sir. Thank you and we are sorry for disturbing you. Have a nice day.

Individual: Same to you and thank you for your service officer.

Good lord, the people on this forum attempting to defend the arrogant race baiting professor over an incident he created is stunning to say the least.

Glad that people think the cop is in the right when he LIED about the caller identifying the potential suspect as black AND his own police department dismissed the charges.
