Billboard Claiming Martin Luther King Was Republican Angers Black Activists in Housto

Re: Billboard Claiming Martin Luther King Was Republican Angers Black Activists in Ho

AFAIK there has never been an African-American elected to office in the USA.

anyway...

I do hope the Nazis complain about something similar and get it taken down too. I dunno maybe using Obama as a black man when he's not.

That the New Black Panthers..even more retarded then the originals..are placated this way is pathetic.

Very true.

Lott was correct.

I really have to laugh every single time I see some damn stupid Democrat whining about Trent Lott or Strom Thurmond as being racist Senators.

How the hell do those damn fools keep managing to forget about Senator Robert KKK aka "White Nigger" Byrd?

Please explain to me how Lott or Thurmond weren't racists, and how things would have been so much better without integration.

No acknowledgment of King's anti-capitalism from our resident fervent rightists, I see. Shame.

Re: Billboard Claiming Martin Luther King Was Republican Angers Black Activists in Ho

What does it matter if King was a Republican, Democrat, or whatever?

Does a mans belief automatically put a side he is on?

Take a look at his beliefs and honor them, not try to use them for some cheap political trip.

I'm sure a man like King, had beliefs that some Dems held and some that a Republican held.

Why is it so important for Republicans to try and label a man? BTW I would say the same if Dems tried and say King was a Democrat.

They would both be wrong. As to why his political views are relevant, they defined far more than a mere "side" that he was on. They defined the basis for another liberation struggle that he envisioned becoming of equivalent importance to the civil rights struggle, if not greater importance.

They weren't all Dem or all Rep values is what I am trying to say. I think they were a little of both added in there with values that weren't Dem and Rep values.

Looking at history I don't think people could have labeled him accurately of any political ideology, because the man was a man of ideas and not sides.

If anything history should have taught us about the man is that there aren't just certain sides, they are grey areas of all sides involved in a person.

Not all political ideologies are rigidly partisan, though, and we should avoid attempting to somehow pretend that he supported some form of "common ground" philosophy acceptable to everyone. On the contrary, many of his political views were quite radical even for the 1960's and would remain so today, most notably his obvious anti-capitalism.

My point being is I don't think it is right to label him a Democrat/Republican or whatever.

Why those certain Republicans feel the need to label him as one of their own is quite egotistical on their part IMO.

Thanks, but I think we'd prefer to win or lose elections based on principle, rather than advertising. Political parties should not be run like sports teams, where winning is the only goal.
