WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama had just started a spirited defense of his economic stimulus plan on Monday when one of his teleprompter screens came loose, crashed to the floor and shattered into pieces.

The gadget's fall surprised Obama, who uses a teleprompter during most speeches and even brief remarks. The glass plate displaying his speech hit the floor in the auditorium of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, a massive building within the White House compound.

"Oh, goodness," Obama said. "Sorry about that, guys."

The audience -- administration officials, mayors and urban policy experts -- laughed as Obama went back to his text. To finish his 11-minute remarks calling for a new policy toward the nation's cities and metropolitan areas, he used notes and the remaining teleprompter screen.

OMG!

For a bit the Republic stood still and not a peep was heard......but TOTUS is ok!

I'm Okay

Remember how I was hoping to take the next couple of days off? Well, that hasn't worked out so well.

My White House designated operator, Felix, clearly has to go. Today, Big Guy and I were scrolling and speaking to an interest group that supported us, and during the middle of the speech, one of my screens collapsed. Turns out Felix didn't tighten one of my screen's bracket rods, and one of my screens collapsed. It was kind of embarrassing, and the accident looked alot worse than the may have seemed on video.

ABC News' Sunlen Miller and Jake Tapper report: If a teleprompter falls in the White House, does it make a sound?

Yes, especially when it’s the President’s teleprompter – or TOTUS as it is often referred to.

"Oh, goodness!" Obama exclaimed. "Sorry about that, guys." The heartless audience of mayors, urban policy wonks and administration crowd-packers laughed out loud at the sudden death.

As if it was a mere machine, the 47-year-old president displayed no sign of concern or compassion whatsoever for his departed friend. He simply continued his speech with the surviving Teleprompter on the other side.

Obama regularly speaks at length and without notes or prompter at Town Hall meetings. Bush could never do that. Find a new strawman, this one is worn out.

Really. This "story" would onlly be newsworthy if Obama stammered and stuttered all over the place after the teleprompter broke. Apparently he didn't.

This shows how desperate Obama haters are to jump on any excuse - no matter how bogus - to bash him.

Only because he had a backup teleprompter. Did you notice how he only looked at one side of the audience after this one broke?

If you have a point, it's not clear. Obama critics are rapidly destroying what's left of their credibility, because nitpicking like this makes it look like they'll come up with any bogus excuse to bash him. Why not stick just with bashing him only when he does something stupid?

Good grief, when I give a presentation, I at least work from notes, a cheat sheet, if you will.

His campaign speeches, which was drafted purely from memory, is enough to confirm to me:

A) This strawman is obselete
B) He really doesnt need a teleprompter.

The picture when he just stares at his broken teleprompter. I do confess. ****ing funny

I also have to ask, who here could give any sort of decent speech without notes?

Given the vast multitude of legitimate criticisms of The Obama, this one seems silly.

But, that's the point -- its funny!!

:rofl

1. Answering questions is not the same as reading a speech.
2. Bush?...I never saw Bush reading notes or a teleprompter verbatim in either his speechs or his town hallls.
3. DO you know what strawman is?..no

This is a strawman-

"I know there are those who believe we should wait to solve this problem, or take a more incremental approach, or simply do nothing... And it is precisely that kind of small thinking that has led us into the current predicament."
-President Barack Obama, "Announcement of US Surgeon General," The White House, July 13, 2009

4. This laugh festival at the expense of Obama do to his overt and constant reliance on reading speechs verbatim form his teleprompter is obviously not worn out. IN fact it very much alive.

That he is still reliant on it like this says one thing..he is reliant on it. Its not a simple aide.

Whatever....your denial of the reality of it all makes it even funnier. Ulcer bound.

They were prepared with a spare, so all that's proven is that even the Messiah can give a speech with half a brain and his supporters won't notice.

Was Obama only looking towards the left side of the audience?

Guess my reporting this to the moderators about THIS not being breaking news fell on deaf ears. What a disappointment.

Breaking news? You have got to be f-ing kidding me.

But alas it is indeed Breaking News

I saw this earlier today. I did not feel it was a big deal. He had no less than two backup teleprompters so the business of giving the illusion of running the country could continue.

If you had to give 3 or 4 speeches a day on entirely different subjects, how would you do it?

I would ask my banker masters to commission more body doubles to tell my lies. They should have at least 5 teleprompters each just in case they get the lies mixed up.

Once they were all squared away I could whoop someones azz on pvp in WoW.

When I said it was Breaking News I mean it was the headline at FOXNews.com. It was a legit Breaking News forum post by all the rules including the new one stickied I just bothered to read.

jfyi.

Half the breaking news is about inanimate things breaking.

What kind of speech? Business presentation, I could wing it, but it wouldn't be that easy.

What is amusing is that Obama's likely relying upon the Teleprompter to avoid Obama-isms. He wants to avoid the flak that Bush took for misstating things left and right. But he's screwed either way. His detractors bash him on his steps taken to avoid making Obama-isms but also jump on anything he misstates. He cannot win this. The issue about the teleprompter has really nothing to do with the teleprompter.
