Obama's Agenda Stands to Lose as Furor Over Bush Years Intensifies

Obama's Agenda Stands to Lose as Furor Over Bush Years Intensifies - Political News - FOXNews.com

President Obama's ambitious domestic agenda for "hope" and "change" could soon get caught in the middle of a bitter debate over the policies of the past.

Early in the year, the president said he wanted to "look forward" and suggested he was not interested in opening high-profile investigations into the activities of the Bush administration.

But a series of developments halfway through Obama's first year related to the Bush administration's prosecution of the War on Terror are threatening to undermine the president's agenda and overshadow his message going forward, analysts say.

So much for Hope and Change that Mr. Obama and the Democrate's were going to bring huh. If Mr. Obama had a backbone or Set of Nads he would tell the Dems. in Congress that he is in charge of the Party and that he has made it very clear that the things of the past are just that The Past.

I want politicians held accountable for their actions, and should they use their invested powers improperly, I want them brought to justice. End of story. I don't care what party you are from, what branch of the government you are from. I want accountable government, end of story. Obama isn't the king of the Democrats, he's merely President of the United States; the executive, he executes the crap Congress tells him to execute and is given domain over the agencies necessary to execute that which Congress has said to.

That being said, I highly doubt that Obama or the Democrats in Congress are actually going to do something. They don't want to open the can of worms which is accountability; they know damned well they've done some terrible things too and if they start trying to hold the Republicans responsible...well hell that pendulium will quickly swing the other way. So both crooked parties are going to bitch about the improper actions of the other side and not do a damned thing about it to produce responsible government. And there's your "hope and change".

    God damned aristocracy

He did it to himself. Releasing the "torture memos" opened Pandora's box, and, just like in the myth, by the time he gets the box closed again, the damage will have been done.

Moreover, the one sure way to close the box is a step he is reluctant to take: issue pardons for everyone. Take the threat of criminal prosecution off the table, then let folks in Congress investigate to their heart's content.

Instead, he's chosen to allow a steady drip drip drip of information leaking out, resurrecting the story line every few news cycles while sparking turf wars among his intelligence advisers.

Frankly, if it succeeds in derailing his agenda, I'll count that as a good thing.

While this is true, I don't think it's proper to dismiss the treasons of today's politicians by the treasons of past politicians. People did it with Bush and the "Clinton did it", people do it now with Obama and the "Bush did it". I say enough is enough, hold all the bastards accountable. I don't care if someone in the past did something bad, if we can't get to those people it doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't still hold the current people responsible.

You do understand that if Congress does get there way then at least four high ranking Dem mainly the members of The Gang of Eight will be open tot he same investigation that they are calling for on the Bush Adm. don't forget the top Screaming Witch Speaker Pelosi has been part of the Gang of Eight for close eight years now.

I'm always against politically-motivated witchhunts. Questionable things get done during war, this is true now, this has always been true, this will always be true. Get over it.

You do realize that Pelosi has pretty much been vindicated by the recent information about Cheney has come forward....
