Several Sudanese women have been flogged as a punishment for dressing "indecently", according to a local journalist who was arrested with them.

Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein, who says she is facing 40 lashes, said she and 12 other women wearing trousers were arrested in a restaurant in the capital, Khartoum.

She told the BBC several of the women had pleaded guilty to the charges and had 10 lashes immediately.

Khartoum, unlike South Sudan, is governed by Sharia law.

Several of those punished were from the mainly Christian and animist south, Ms Hussein said.

Non-Muslims are not supposed to be subject to Islamic law, even in Khartoum and other parts of the mainly Muslim north.

Man, Islam really knows how to treat a lady. Now, if the laws of Sudan are as mentioned, will this create further tension between the Chritian South and Islamic North?

I realize you are extremely partisan and hate the left with a passion, but honestly, what in the world would ever lead you to believe that people on the left would want that? Leftists are guilty of a lot of things, but wanting to flog women for wearing trousers? Give me a break. :roll:

It's not just extremists on the left. Typically extremists of any ideology feel the need to force their agenda on everyone else.

No Doc, you didn't realize that the left wants to prevent people from getting married, and tell women what to do with their body, and tell people they have to have the ten commandments on government property, and tell scientists what science is, and.... Oh wait, no thats the right. My bad.;)

This type of behavior is typical of countries with Islamic governance; people are desensitized to it, that's why certain liberals can piss and moan all day about Christian intolerance and regressiveness in America while turning a blind eye to - and sometimes siding with - Islamic fundamentalists the world over.

I do not side with it at all. Fundamentalists need to be eliminated. Why have tolerance for those who have no tolerance?

You're right, it's not just extremist Leftists. Most Leftists feel a need to force their agenda on the country, because it's the only way it will grow, is by force. Tobacco legislation, climate legislation, nationalization of the auto industry, hate crime legislation, gun control, the fairness doctrine; all because America has rejected Liberalism.

Just because you don't agree with Leftists doesn't mean that they are all trying to shove their agenda down your throat. You have your own agendas just as they have theirs. The extremists on both sides are the only ones who are really trying to force anything.

That's right, The Church of Liberalism. Liberalism has all the classic traits of a religion: a dogma, a god, a clergy, etc.

Actually, they haven't. Liberalism is about progression and it has continued to progress. Many people say that liberalism has changed, and it has..but it also hasn't. It has in that it is constantly changing and progressing. It hasn't because that's always what it has been about. Both sides of the political spectrum have extremists. The fact that you only see wrong with Liberalism speaks more about your hyper-partisan views than it does about reality.

Liberalism has been rejected by the American people, time and again. Hence the need for legislation to force people into accepting the Liberal agenda.

I hate to tell you, but this country was founded on Liberalism. I'm not saying that it's the answer to everything, because it isn't. A good part of it is just too idealist and unrealistic to me. There has to be a good balance.

Which is exactly what I was talking about in an earlier post. Of course it's not the Liberalism we know today because Liberalism is always changing and progressing.
