Sudan women 'lashed for trousers'

Perhaps you should post the information that you're responding to so there is no confusion.

Perhaps. But the thread was about women in Sudan being lashed for trousers as it is against their religious laws, and my comment was about theocracy; so it seemed pretty clear that what I said had nothing to do with this country's liberalism.

I wasn't implying that you specifically were "certain liberals".

I understand your point bro, but I do not think that there are people here that actually side with the Islamic terrorists. I have heard people express some understanding for ME hate of the U.S. for some of the dealings we have done there in the past, but never agree with the terrorism.

Please stop your hyper-partisan trolling. If you wish to bash Liberalism, which has nothing to do with this OP, then start your own thread.

BBC NEWS | Africa | Sudan women 'lashed for trousers'

Man, Islam really knows how to treat a lady. Now, if the laws of Sudan are as mentioned, will this create further tension between the Chritian South and Islamic North?

Ok...so...who are these women? What were they doing there? Did they need papers of any kind to cross the boarder? What are the laws in question, both the dress code and the foreigner exception?

This article did a rather pisspoor job of reporting the facts.

People still say ''trousers''

The women were, I think reporters. But no, they did not need papers and the law states that Non-Muslims are not covered by Sharia Law, thus the police were out of line.

Right, because non-Muslims pay the (I forget the word for it) tax, right?

I realize you are extremely partisan and hate the left with a passion, but honestly, what in the world would ever lead you to believe that people on the left would want that? Leftists are guilty of a lot of things, but wanting to flog women for wearing trousers? Give me a break.
They might beat them for carrying a Bible. :rofl I know, I know, that was mean.

Let's be precise. I said Islamic fundamentalists, not terrorists or extremists. People must understand the distinction between these three concepts if they are to appreciate the nuance of Islamic culture and governenance.

Yeah, where ya been?

Haha, maybe it's just my crazy foreigner ways, but I've always said "pants" rather than "trousers"! It works fine when I'm at home, but when I talk with people in the UK and stuff, they always think I'm talking about underpants. :doh Some clothing-related conversations can get awkward.

I think leftists would let women walk around naked. It's the far right that houses the fundamentalists.:doh
I'm an independent....but I'm still willing to let women walk around naked....

Who sides with fundamentalists?

They were naughty and needed a spanking!!!

Who are you to criticize their free choices, choices that obviously make them happy? They're grown women, if they didn't want to be lashed, they would leave.

See how this works? Isn't multiculturalism AWESOME?

I think they need to send these ladies to Gitmo and let them smack the prinsoners around a bit.

the problem is not islam, it is fundamentalism
I understand that Bub, but non-Muslims pay a higher tax so that they are not under Sharia law. Thus, the lashings were illegal and oppressive on the Christians of Sudan.

Lashing should be legal nowhere, but that's not really the question. Even if it was "legal", this law is totally stupid. You don't do that to people whose sole crime is to wear trousers. That's what I call "fundamentalism" (or extremism, I don't really see the difference), and that's what should disappear.

Why go to Gitmo? I wish they could lash the testicles of the assholes who decided that wearing trousers was a crime
