Again, I'm not placing religion above science. Please read what I've said.

No, but you are placing them on the same level as if they are even remotely similar. Religion is faith-based. Science is theory-based. Theory isn't infallible, but it does have fact to back it up. Religion doesn't.

This state has been mismanaged for decades because either no one's watching or no one knows any better. It's a great place for old people and raising kids. It's not a place to have a career. That is the great failure of the people elected to manage this state.

And since you live here, you are well aware that there are 2 Maines. Greater Portland vs everywhere else. Mid coast isn't bad. It's beautiful. But if you're not a fisherman, inn keeper, doctor, nurse or restauranteur, there's not a lot else to to support a career.
You aren't even addressing the points I made in my post about Collins or Snowe, which was my contention and I could care less where you live. Setting the record straight is my objective, not a discussion of what it's like living in Maine according to you. Angus King was a 2 term governor so I consider that successful.

There is a good reason for there being 2 Maine's, and this is a classic example. People in the south don't have a clue about anything to do with life above Portland.

If theories had facts to back them up, they wouldn't be theories anymore.

Scientific theories are conclusions based on the evidence. Religion is faith based on the evidence.

The Nazis used scientific evidence to prove that Jews were inferior. That's no different than using religious dogma to prove that a paticular race is inferior.

There are many levels to a theory, though. Just because facts back up a theory doesn't mean that they are facts. You really need to do some more research on science because it's clear that you have a limited understanding of it based on your comparison of religion and science. I don't mean this as an insult at all, by the way.

What evidence is faith based on? Personal experience? That's hardly evidence.

Actually, your post was that I had no idea what Maine was like, and I begged to differ. If getting re-elected is all it takes to be successful, than I guess you would call GWB a success.

I contend that neither Snowe, Collins, King or Baldacci have done much to make this a thriving state. This state is in real trouble, and what are our elected officials doing about it?

There's really not a heck of a lot going on north of Portland. But you know that. That's why it's a fabulous place to retire.

    edit: Brunswick isn't bad, though.

Scientific theory is no more credible than basing religion on period documentation and physical evidence.

What physical evidence is there of God's existence? I'm not attacking religion here, I'm just saying that we should be honest and call it what it is. It is faith-based and there is nothing wrong with that. But don't put in the same category as science which doesn't provide all of the answers, but does provide far more fact-based answers than the religion does. And if by period documentation you are referring to the Bible that book has been changed and re-translated so many times, it's hard to tell what is legit and what isn't.

I'm not going to defend religion, either. My point is that one is no more credible than the other, especially when it's used to shape governmental policy.

Then we will have to agree to disagree.
