Authorities discover original casket of Emmett Till

(CNN) — Authorities discovered Emmett Till’s original casket in a dilapidated garage at a historic cemetery where four people are accused of digging up graves and reselling them, police said Friday.

“There was wildlife living inside of it,” Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said of the casket, which he said was found in the corner of a garage filled with lawn care equipment and other “piles of things” at Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.

“We very quickly came to the conclusion it was the original casket that Emmett Till was buried in,” Dart said.

Very unfortunate.

Honestly, anyone who would defile the resting place of the dead deserve some of the harshest of punishments. It doesn't get much lower than that. :(

My husband and I have always wondered about a cemetary doing this. I mean they are in the business for profit but you only have so much room available and then it's just it. I am surprised actually this hasn't been discovered before.

You'd never sell that to Muslims/Arabs. I don't know if it's a religious thing, or a cultural thing, but Arab Muslims have an incredible fear of being burned.

Which is kind of funny since the majority of Muslims live in the Middle East where it is normal over 100 degrees in the day time.

One day all people that die shall be cremated and ashes either sent home with loved ones or scattered. We cannot just keep burying people cause we gonna run out of land one day.

As an update, Cook County Sherrif's Department investigators say that another deposit of human bones has been discovered and that Burr Oak Cemetary will be closed for five days in order to canvass the grounds from one end to the other.

In another shocking development, all the grave markers in one burial section now face in a different direction than the originals.

I don't even know how to relate this.... frantic mothers are saying that one section of the cemetary designated as "Babyland" no longer exists. :(

No we won't.

Personally, I think all the conflaguration is hilarious.

After all, we don't mind digging up other civilizations leftovers in the name of research and education. Why is it so gruesome that someone else did it for profit?

Why are our corpses sacrosanct and the corpses of civilizations past are not?

The largest problem with cremation is the release of toxins into the atmosphere.

Bullcrap. Life gets burned all the time, from leaves to bodies to bones.
