Greenpeace activists arrested for banner on Mount Rushmore

CHICAGO (AFP) – Greenpeace activists were arrested Wednesday for scaling Mount Rushmore and hanging a banner next to the carved face of Abraham Lincoln urging President Barack Obama to get tough on climate change.

A video posted on the environmental group's website showed the massive banner hanging on the South Dakota mountain face.
Its message -- "America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming" and an unfinished portrait of Obama -- was barely visible as it was whipped by wind.

"Doing what it takes to solve global warming demands real political courage," Greenpeace USA deputy campaigns director Carroll Muffett said in a statement.

"If President Obama intends to earn a place among this country's true leaders, he needs to show that courage, and base his actions on the scientific reality rather than political convenience."

IMO--this is actually a pretty clever stunt. They will get charged with trespassing, not vandalism. But I like that they put the banner next to Lincoln. Although, I would change the bottom of the banner to read: "Stop Spending Money."

That's a good way to get attention. Deface a national monument with a banner and then get tons of press about it. Current and future activist organizations of America, take note!

It's pretty clever until you realize that global worming is junk science no different than Intelligent Design or other pseudosciences.

Then it's just stupid people looking for a few blog hits.

A founder of Greenpeace has long disassociated himself with them; doesn't think they follow the original mission.

They could have gotten hurt. What the hell were the thinking?

How much money do those groups stand to make from global warming grants? Is it millions, or billions?

There's more cash involved with global warming research than there is in the oil and gas industry.

We don't know global warming exists but we do know oil and gas exists so naturally we would spend more money researching the item we are trying to still figure out. ;)

Ahh, another conspiracy theorist that belives all the world's scientists are in cahoots with Al Gore to get rich by carbon credits.

I don't care for your end-of-the-world prophecy, is all. Go preach your gospel somewhere else.

It's called s-c-i-e-n-c-e, no dogma involved Jerry.

I already said it was science

:prof It's pseudoscience, to be exact.

We all died 20 years ago from climate change, don't you remember?

Global worming is pseudoscience. It's garbage. No different than all these end-of-the-world proficiencies. Take Al'Gore and your other conclusively proven wrong false prophets and go away. The world would be better off :2wave:

Cap&Trade is the modern Blue Law.

Is that the Whale Wars guy (Paul Watson)? Cause if so, that guy is out of his ever loving mind.

Their original mission was the dissolution of the United States. They're still working hard on that one.

Why else would they be pretending global warming is an issue of concern?

Uh...what? Where did you get this info from? They are and always have been an environmental activist group. What does the dissolution of the US have to do with that?

I look at their actions, not their phony published mission statement.

I look the fact that they elected Mr. C4-Toys-For-Kids Gorbachev as their president.

I look at the close association they had with the Soviet Union prior to our victory over that Leftist Paragon.

So-called "environmentalism" has been the bull-frog of anti-American operations for decades. If you're not aware, bull-frogs are green on the outside, red on the inside.

I'm still failing to see how they advocated the dissolution of the US. And no, your guilt by association nonsense isn't proof. I'm not saying I agree with Greenpeace or that I'm an environmentalist, because I'm not. I'm just saying that we should at least be honest about what they are. Just because you don't like them doesn't justify accusing them of advocating the dissolution of the US when there is absolutely zero evidence of it.

Global warming didn't exist in the early 70's, we were in an ice age then. I still have my parka.

I remember when the hole in the O-zone was going to kill us all unless we enacted a long list of laws and funding...then the hole shrank...turns out it's on a cycle...oh, and so is the hole in the south, but since that one isn't as big, they can't get as much money out of it, therefore it wasn't a threat to the environment.

All those ice caps melting...yeah...you're going to see that every time you take those pictures in the summer...they didn't report how all that ice came back that winter.

Pseudoscience.
