The word originally used to describe slaves from what is now a Country & nation called Nigeria is now deemed deeply offensive by those that categorize themselves as being Black African.
IMO Black Africans can and do take offense at any name that a white person uses to differentiate them from White/Yellow/Other colored people.

Life would be so much simpler if those who are born in or take Citizenship in any country, simply identify themselves as being citizens of that country.

Instead what we have are people calling themselves, Irish, Chinese, Japanese, Americans instead of Americans.

Having these variations of ones ancestry simply encourages the differences between people.
How can any unity be achieved so long as people in a nation think themselves different than other citizens of the same nation?

I believe that the folks who scream for racial equality the most, are the ones that actually want it, the least.

How so? .

How many times have we been reminded by Obama supporters that he's black? It shouldn't make a difference. Right? We have not and will not be allowed to forget he's black. You'll never hear about the white half.

Sotomayor said that she would make a better SJ, because she's Latino.

The PC/Leftist crowd couldn't invoke the, "you're a racist", argument if we were all equal and color didn't matter.

If we were all allowed to be equal, the welare rolls wouldn't be as lop-sided as they are and the Libbos couldn't pander to the Welfare Class vote.

There would be no such thing as, "majority minority", congressional districts, as provided by section 5 of the Voting Rights Act--racial gerrymandering, basically--which guarantee that minority candidates will be elected. Candidates who are, 99% of the time, minorities.

No, the last thing the so called civil rights movement wants is actual equality. If that were the case, Joseph Cao would be allowed to be a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, because his district is a majority minority district.

The Civil Rights Industry would lose millions if we were all equal. The Civil Rights Industry has done more the hurt the black community than slavery and Jim Crow ever could.

But see, the problem is that we will never be equal. Black people have a far different origin in this country than we do. I'm not saying that cries of racism aren't often unwarranted, but it is a fact of life that we are not equal. And to bury your head in the ground and pretend that we are all equal is to be ignorant. Pretending you are color blind isn't the solution.

Thank you for illustrating my point.

One of my favorite quotes:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

What are you talking about if you haven't notice but the guy who is the Leader of the Free World happens to be a Black Man, there is a Black Man that is part of the Supreme Court. Over the past three administration we have had many Black Men and Women hold high office position and you still say their is a race problem get over it and move on.

Hey folks you want to know a little secret till we all start acting like AMERICANS and Not African-American/Irish-American/Chinese-Americans then the so0called race problem will keeping going. We are Americans plain and simple.

IMO, the only person that should be considered an African-American is someone that is born in Africa and became an American citizen. Even then I think they should be considered just American.

Why should a person not born of Africa, be considered an African American?

Apparently not.

Apparently giving preferencial treatment to minorities under the law is the solution somehow.

You know, to pay back for past injustices, while at the same time creating new ones, against whites. But who cares about those pale ghosts anyways.

This is what Ive been saying for years.

African-American has undertones to it that means that they aren't completely American, and that being African comes before being an American.

Very good question, if you try to ask this question you are labeled a racist.

to some yes, but a friend of mine actually gets pissed when someone labels him an African American. He says ' I am an American".

The funny thing for the past 3 generations his family was from England hehe.

He is an "English-American"

because it makes a distinction between the races. Skin color is everything to the Civil Rights industry. If that ever goes away, there could be a chance that white politicos could be elected in majority minority districts. Can't have that.

If that were the case, you could have black-American, African American, English-American, etc.

Although like most I've been puzzled by African American. Africa isn't a country.

He would want to kick your ass over that one hehe.

He was "American". If you called him other than that, he was offended and would let you you know it lol.

I think it's funny because if they don't like the name change the name of the nation which from all the emails I get from Nigeria is full of thieves, crooks, and idiots. And no it's not a black thing. And by the way the Destructor in Chief Balack Hussein Obama is half white.
The opportunities for people of any minority in this country is in direct proportion to their personal attitude and desire to succeed. We don't have slaves anymore and no one alive ever owned one and most people can't remember a time when separate but equal and open segregation was a common practice in this country.
This whole thing is much ado about nothing. It all has to do with how one pronounces the ward Nigaz as is true of Nigeria and Nigerian as well. Claiming racism these days usually comes from the true racists. Black Power! Is that or is that not racist? If I yell White power I'm attacked from everyone on all sides. Talk about racism and double standards. Oh yea I'm not going to claim my best friend is a black man elike some would do at this point. Besides she'd be pi$$ed if I called her a man.

It's all about race, not actual national origin. Some folks would be offended if a white African called himself and African American.

here's an article on that very thing.

'White African-American' sues med school - UPI.com

Im just being sarcastic over this Ancestry-American crap.

God damnit.. My high school best friend really is black.

But we don't talk much now, I don't have any friends :(

Every time I get some, I move away, lol.

You mean like all those Messiah voters in California who also voted to retain discrimination against homosexuals by supporting Prop 8?

That proposition would not have passed if it wasn't for the bigots in the Democrat Party.
