    Oregon legalizes hemp cultivation

Oregon has just become the sixth state to legalize hemp growing. Hemp is a very useful fiber, and had become a victim in the government's so-called War on Drugs.

It is nice to see common sense in action. More common sense would be legalizing the growing of marijuana itself. The government could make beaucoup bucks, and at the same time, put some of the cartels out of business. But at least this is a good start towards Americans giving the idiots in Washington the middle finger.

    Article is here.

I cannot agree more that the production of hemp on a wide commercial basis is one of the smartest things that we can do. I understand that the byproducts of hemp go way beyond fiber. There are chemicals and compounds possible that can replace non-renewable resources. The sad part is that since we have not produced hemp here in years so we have fallen behind the curve and we have not performed any real research exploring expanded uses of hemp and hemp byproducts.

    hemp byproducts - Bing

I wanted to get more info on hemp production but only found this site ( above link) that did not look like some pothead wacko site. I read here that Canada does allow hemp production with some caveats.

Anyone know of any sites about hemp that are not hippie pot smoking type ?

maybe I can retire and become a hemp farmer !! Auditing is getting to be a bore.

    Re: Oregon legalizes hemp cultivation

Unfortunately Oregon joins one of a growing list of states where it is legal to grow hemp, yet will not grow it in the perceivable future due to conflicts with federal law and the DEA.

Hemp is illegal to grow in the U.S. under federal law due to its relation to marijuana. Some states have defied federal law and made the cultivation of industrial hemp legal. These states North Dakota, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Montana, West Virginia, Vermont, and Oregon have not yet begun to grow hemp due to resistance from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
Vermont and North Dakota have passed laws enabling hemp licensure. Both states are waiting for permission to grow hemp from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). Currently, North Dakota representatives are pursuing legal measures to force DEA approval.

I sure am not going to hold my breathe on the DEA giving permission on this.

Just another of a growing list of state laws that are butting heads with the feds, and the evolved (devolved?) SCOTUS interpretation of the commerce clause, and the 10th amendment again.
