Did it occur to anyone that Obama is supporting this wanna be dictator and friend of another dictator Chavez for a reason. That reason being that at the end of Obama's 2nd term he will attempt to do as they have done.

And why would he immediately get behind Zelaya who attempted to change his countries constitution so he could serve another term but not support another leader who stolled an election, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Ask the opposition media outlets Hugo has shut down.

The ones involved in an attempted coup who could have been detained, without trial, for three months had they done the same thing in the UK? [incidently they were dennyed a licence and can still broadcast online]. Ild imagine if Fox news incited people to violently overthrow the government the FCC would have a thing or two to say

See? There, you're defending him. Whose word do you have for that?

And how about Globovision? They criticized the government's response to an earthquake as being too slow; the government says they incited "panic and anxiety" and is gearing up to shut them down.

Funny; the FCC didn't have anything to say when all the American media was in a frenzy about Bush's "slow reaction" to Katrina.

So, there you go. Your man of the Left.

Well ive criticised him for the courruption and cronyism existent in Venuzuela and for the regimes his building alliances with. The only point ive been making is that its inaccurate to call him a despot and that he is being supported for the improvements he makes. This isnt being partisan, its a statement of fact. Would i rather someone else was making these improvments? absolutely

There is no country in the world were a media company can be complicit in a violence against the government and expect to come out unscathed.

What exactly where they complicit in? What exactly did they do which amounted to "participating in a coup"? And again, whose word do you have for that?

And since when is criticizing the slow response of government to a disaster legitimate reason to shut it down? I mean, if civil liberties are respected, of course.

The point isn't, and is NEVER, what a government does regarding the people who like them. It's about what they do to the people who don't.

Well you dont need to take anyones word for it. You simply have to watch the footage of them calling on soldiers to join the coup. Try watching the documentary "the revolution will not be televised" Those who dont support the government generally get on ok provided they dont advocate violence.

    What about Globovision?

In any case, here's the pro-Chavez version of things re: RCTV:

    Cartoon Coup D?Etat | venezuelanalysis.com

I don't see anything they say RCTV did which would be illegal here, nor would any civil libertarian say they should be. Of course, they say:

It is not difficult to imagine that had CNN or the New York Times acted in the United States as RCTV had done in Venezuela, their executives would now be in Guantánamo
    But that's complete idiocy.
