US troops have officially withdrawn from all Iraqi cities, leaving the Iraqi government in control, as the first phase of Obama's pullout of all troops from Iraq by August 2010. At that time, it will be completely up to Iraqis to manage themselves. At the present time, US forces will only be operating in rural areas and next to the border.

I am known as one of the biggest Obama bashers in this forum, but I've got to give him credit for pulling the troops out. We do NOT belong in Iraq. However, there is another war, one that Bush forgot about long before that mission was completed. I am talking about, of course, Afghanistan, the nation that harbored the 911 terrorists, and where al-Qaeda still has a very visible presence. These are the guys we should have taken out from the git go, and THIS is the battlefield where the mission remains unfinished.

While I have just said something good, for a change, about Obama, I am ready to take it all back if he renegs on his promise to deal with the situation in Afghanistan. We still owe the Taliban a good ass whupping. I haven't forgotten 911, and I am sure that nobody else has either. If we don't finish the mission there, and take them out, once and for all, then it will surely come back to bite us right in the ass. We must make the Taliban realize that war is definitely hell, so that they think twice before screwing with the USA again. They should know that to do so will be at their own peril, and that there can only be one outcome for them - Death on a massive scale.

I know that a lot of people aren't going to like what I just said, and that others are war weary. Doesn't matter. War is hell, so Sherman said, and the best way to ensure the peace is to create hell on Earth for those who attacked us, and those who would love nothing more than an opportunity to attack us again.

And no, I am not a Neocon. I am an American who loves my country enough to want the payback that our politicians, Democrats and Republicans alike, are not willing to mete out, due to political cowardice.

I will never forget. Death to the Taliban.

Im sorry, but since when did you wear this mantle? I haven't seen a LOT of Obama bashing from you. You definately ARE one of the biggest Bush bashers on the forum next to ADK, but Obama; I just haven't seen a lot of posts from you about him.

Except one little item I would like to point out is this it wasn't Mr. Obama who signed and seal this deal. It was mr. Bush two months before he left office so yea let's give credit to who deserve it Mr. Bush not the choicen one who has don enothing but show how much of backbone he lacks.

I too am glad to see the pull back of American Military from the Cities of Iraq but let's jump to the conclusion that the Amateur in Chief Obama was the architect behind the draw downs, as he was not. For this to take to be able to place the effort got under way long before Obama came along. I am not a fan of Obama or Bush and agree we never should have gone to war in Iraq as it was no threat what ever since the end of the first gulf war which virtually destroyed that countries military strength reducing it from what was called back in 1990 the worlds 3rd most powerful military to the mouse that roared status it was in 2003.
Now if real measurable progress is made in Afghanistan and the Taliban is wiped out and Osama is captured or better yet killed because of something Obama did. I'll be one of the first to give credit where credit is due. Wiping out opium poppy growing is going to have be part of the solution as it is the source of most if not all of the cash used to fund the bad guys. Destrying those crops will anger the hell out of the farmers unless a major effort in placed on some other type of crop that will allow them to survive.

All ye faithful beleivers in the devine miracles of the Holy Messiah, time for you all to get your asses out here and apologize for each and every time you called Bush's invasion of Iraq a failure.
 
Glad to see this happening, and also hope we finish things in afghanistan, but I agree...give credit where credit is due. Bush had put the wheels into motion of the pull out and was following what he was saying (despite so many people that loved to bash him not hearing it cause they had fingers in their ears going "lalalalalala neocon blood for oil bush died people lied lalalalalalala")...that upon the belief by our generals and those in the Iraqi military/government that they are secure and stable enough to stand up on their own and keep the piece and not have what we just helped build crumble as soon as we leave that we'd begin the draw down of forces, and that's what we're doing.

So.. since noone has said it.. anyone up for some over/under on how long it is before Iraq is just like it was before Saddam was ousted?

I've got more than 5 years, less than 10.

Ick, gin tastes like cologne or rubbing alcohol.. I can't really make up my mind on what it does taste like.

Now... A shot of nice Vodka... re: Ketel One, Grey Goose... or something else highend... Now, that's how to get the day started.. Unless you're heading to the range... then you dilute it with your oj. :p

until the grandkids wake up, all I get is a shot of diet dr. pepper.....

IMO, the USA is the epitome of arrogance if we think we can change the mindsets of cultures that have been crazy stupid for several hundred, if not thousands, of years...

We fought the Japanese, the Koreans, the Vietnamese, and now Arabs, and still haven't learned much from the experience...

They will soon be back killing each other over minor points in religion or the price of goat milk, or something else equally stupid....

Yeah this happened under Bush. The funny thing about that is I heard Cheney on the news this morning complaining about how this was going to give the insurgents fuel to launch more attacks and that withdrawing troops may not be the best plan. Um ok Dick, that plan was under your watch. :doh

We'll just have to wait and see. If Iraq stays peaceful, with no significant al-Qaeda presence, or at least nothing the Iraqi military can't handle, then we will have won.

I dont recall that being listed as a reason we're leaving.
And the idea that the US government doesn't have revenue, especially enough to continue operations in Iraq, is unsupportable.

Who gives a crap what the insurgents do, there are insurgents in dozens of countries all over the world, and none of them are our problem.
