Iraqis rejoice as U.S. troops leave Baghdad

U.S. troops pulled out of Baghdad on Monday, triggering jubilation among Iraqis hopeful that foreign military occupation is ending six years after the invasion to depose Saddam Hussein.

Iraqi soldiers paraded through the streets in their American-made vehicles draped with Iraqi flags and flowers, chanting, dancing and calling the pullout a "victory."

I hope the Iraqi government can stand strong and not allow their ranks to be corrupted by the militia's.

I really don't care what they do, as long as our troops are safely out of there. The chance of Jeffersonian democracy flowering in that hellhole is very remote anyway, the odds not increased by our presence.

I give it 2 years, 4 tops to be nice before it goes back into ruins and a crazy dictator comes back into power.

    Any takers?

I'll take you on. I think it may get bad for a period, but will make it as an Islamic Republic. Hopefully not in Iran's current image. Maybe more like an Egypt.

This is Iraq we are talking about.

Secularism to some extent and peace was brought upon by a dictator.
Saddam falls and women and minority rights all but disappear.

I bet it'll be Iran type republic. We forget Iraq is majority Shia

That's true, there may not be enough secularists to keep an Egyptian style government. Let's just hope it does not really fall into chaos, of course if it does, it may throw Iran into chaos as well and that may lead to the downfall of Ahmadinejad and Khameni.

I hope so too ... but i won't hold my breath
    Look at the Christian population.
Under Saddam they flourished, US and UK come in (ironically both Christian majority countries) and Christians are decimated
But you owe me chocolate if i am proven right

Hopefully Iraq will not become another Lebanon, and can at least become a Turkey.

Now those forces are freed up to support an attack on North Korea.

We will not invade the North because of China, the SOuth Korean military with our Naval and Air support can do it themselves.
