    Washington to California: Drop dead

With California’s state government deadlocked over a $24 billion hole in its budget, the Golden State is hurtling toward financial apocalypse.

Washington’s response? Deal with it yourselves
Good, this shouldve been the response to failing corporations. Why should the rest of the country pay for the failings of one state.

I'm very glad, not just for the rest of the nation's sake, but for California's. If the feds were to bail out California the problem would not be solved. The hole would still exist, but it would get paved over by the feds. Going without assistance forces California to deal with the long term issue they've created for themselves.

Hopefully this forces California to make the necessary cuts. I know how they can immediately trim off a fifth of that debt. Cut off illegals, that is 4-5 billion dollars saved.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Friggin' Democrats.

    What's their complaint about California?

Rep. Zoe Lofgren, the chairwoman of the state’s 33-member Democratic delegation, said California’s budget quagmire is largely a result of structural process in the budget process: It takes a two-thirds majority in both houses of the state legislature to pass a budget or raise taxes, which effectively means that no one can do anything unless majority Democrats, minority Republicans and the state’s Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, agree.
According to those maggots, the problem California has is that the politicians can't raise taxes faster than they can spend money.

Californians are taxed more than anyone else in the entire country.

Low taxes aren't the problem here.

Now, the first thing California should do, as Jamesrage said, is turn off all money going to invaders. They're a federal problem, not the state's problem. Invasion is a violation of federal law.

The next thing California should do is examine it's budget and see where it's spending state money to comply with mandates from the federal government that the feds aren't paying for.

    Stop spending money there.

Then, California should just stop spending money on people who will not work, there's other states those people can move to. I recommend Illinois.

California should also make state parks a revenue neutral proposition, by making visitors to those parks pay what they're costing the state to run, if the thought of privatizing them is wetting too many panties.

Then there's all the "commissions" that cost so much money and impede so much growth but provide handy sinecures for policians and their buds. Dump them.

Oh, and lower the damn taxes in the state. That's the best way to ensure tax revenues rise.

That needs to be looked at carefully as cutting these people off could shutdown California's $31 billion a year Agricultural industry. It's estimated that 2/3 of the workers in the industry are immigrants, with the majority being illegal.

I don't agree with this at all. I shouldn't have to pay an entrance fee to enter the park on the corner.

The illegals are going to leave because they don't get entitlements anymore? I doubt that.

I'm sure you do. That doesn't make it reality though.

What needs to be done is these people should either be given work visa's so they can contribute to paying taxes and help lead them to citizenship or the current unemployed market should be tapped to replace the illegal workers.
