Obama to Return U.S. Ambassadors to Syria, Venezuela - Political News - FOXNews.com

The Obama administration has decided to return an ambassador to both Venezuela and Syria after a diplomatic hiatus with both countries, FOX News confirmed Wednesday.

The United States and Venezuela have been working to reinstate ambassadors to each other's capitals since Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in April at the Summit of the Americas, a State Department official said. The move would reverse a tit-for-tat the countries had last year, when Venezuela kicked out the U.S. ambassador and the United States did the same to Venezuela's envoy.

"The necessary measures are being taken" to return the diplomats to their posts, the official said. "It's in the best interests of both countries."

The diplomatic freeze with Syria dates back much further, and a restoration of ties with the Middle Eastern country is seen as part of a broader effort to achieve a comprehensive peace between Arabs and Israelis in the region.

This diplomatic effort is said by knowledgeable sources to include a quiet campaign by the Obama administration to "bring Hamas into the (peace) process."

So this i just wrong in so many ways I'm sorry folks the more and more I see of Mr. Obama the more and more I feel we are going down the wrong path. Want to "BRING HAMAS INTO THE(PEACE)PROCESS" please how about we all forget about the fact that they conmsider us the Big Satan and that they will not live with nor except Israel as a Nation or the fact that they have killed Americans in the past but hey lets forget all that and hold hands and sing Kumbi Ya. As for Chevez not only should we not be sending back anyone to that Country but we should freeze all of CITGO Oil and tell that little sawed off muchkin that the next time he decide to call an American President a devil he should have the nads to do it to his face.

Your reaction may be a bit over the top. Bush allowed CITGO to buy oil from our reserve a couple years ago, when bad weather, hurricanes, were making transport of their oil to the refineries difficult.

Also, Syria is now working to finally help secure their border with Iraq and are taking steps to reestablish economic trade with Iraq and help transport Iraqi natural gas to Europe. Many American's hated and feared China before Nixon established relations, this could be the next steps in improving international relations and grow greater cooperation.

Yea well I'm sorry I've seen all I can see of the so called Help that Syria is doing along the border how's about this if Syria really want to open up to us then let us Weapons Inspectors go in and look at the stuff we suspected Saddam sent to Syria right before the War and while they are at it they can let the IAEA in to look at a few sites.

As for Chevez do you have a link showing that Mr. Bush allowed them to buy some of our reserve's I find that very hard to swallow. But even if they did we still shouldn't send anyone back their till he free's all political prisionors and allow Free and Open Press.

I can not find the link, but it was on CNN money last summer. Regardless, thhe main debate here, I think, is how do we change these nation? Is it by having no dialogue and sanctions? This has not worked in Cuba. But with China, that has many human rights problems, as well as, political prisoners, we deal openly with. Do you think we should break trade with China, until they are a free democracy?

That is fantastic. That is the way to peace. Find common ground with those that would fight you. Finally a President that will open the door to understanding. We should be open to everyone like this.

This doesn't bother me. We maintained an embassy and staff inside the USSR throughout the Cold War. What better way to keep an eye on a potential adversary than having an official presence there.

I don't think China should have Most Favor Trade partner never have and never will for many reason. As for Cuba hmm I think it has worked ever been to Cuba I have seen what a piss hole it really is.

Oh and for sanctions not working I give you Libya as an example tha worked very nicely

Really Inferno,

So you think we should just throw open are arms and say hey Syria welcome back never mind the fact you have been given money/weapons/training to terror Groups who have killed Americans and Westerner's in the past and won't let UN Weapon's Team nor IAEA go in and do a proper search.

As for Chevez nice message to send out it's alright you can close down the Press send out hit squads to kill rivals bad mouth the United States but hey we forgive you come on in.

Nope doesn't fly with me, Mr. Obama is wrong on this and will always be wrong untill he understands that trying to be nice to Criminals of the World doesn't pay.

Apple and Oranges two different item, during the Cold War between two Super Powers and two pissant Countrys who should be isolated and cut off till they decide to jion the ranks of the World.

But it still has many trading partners, against U.S. wishes, and the regime is still in power. So who suffers? Not the regime, the people. Why does China need most favored partner status? They are our number one trading partner, as we are their largest export market and they own $5 trillion of our debt!

And what good does it do us for it to be a piss hole?

By the way, punctuation can be your friend. It would certainly make your posts more comprehensible.

Or decide to join the ranks of those who would do us harm because we've isolated them. Reopening embassies in these countries is not going to harm us, and could possibly yield some benefits. The risk/benefit ratio is a good one in this case, IMO.

They need Most favor to get better deals and Taxs break that is why as for the so-called dept that is just a paper ### put the sqeeze on China and it goes away, ask yourself what happens to all of that Debt that African Countries have to the US when it is majically removed nothing they don't pay the money back and we don't care hence the same thing can apply to China.

Not in Syria that I can tell you with a fact, unless they let IAEA and UN Teams in then they should stay the International Outcast that they are.

They need to do the following items before they should even think about the United States even talking with them on a High level

1. Open up asll site to UN Weapons Inspector Teams
2. Let IAEA Inspected certain site including the one that Israel knock off
3. Free all Political Prisoners
4. Stop all Aid to Terror Groups and Publicly denounce them
5. Except Israel as a Nation and sign a Peace treaty
6. Free and Open Elections and Press

Untill they do this then they get nothing

I hope you are right, but I fear China would not easily give-up such a potentially powerful weapon.

It is good to maintain an embassy in any and all countries. It does not mean you support them in what they do. I personally have no problem with Chavez but that is another issue. Peace is a process that can take ages and if we are not willing to talk and keep communications open we are the wrong headed ones.

We have to start being open to talk without conditions. We need to bring the world to the table not push them away. As was mentioned we always had an embassy in the USSR.

Message is clear.

Murder Civilians and call for the Extermination of Jews = Get a meeting with Obama or at very least favored in his diplomacy.

Kill US soldiers and he will hand you a victory even if you're defeated.

Fight for the USA, protest for freedoms, be a firm ally with the USA..and you'll get a cold shoulder and likely denounced in his next made for TV Speech.

Diplomacy is always a good thing. The US should have full diplomatic exchanges with EVERY nation on this planet.

The way to lasting peace is to talk and trade.

Notice how we always saber rattle around countries we know we can easily beat in a war? How come we never did this to China and Russia? We always pick on little countries.

We're like the high school kid who picks on third graders, because he knows he can push them around. Yet, he doesn't dare do it to his school's football team, because he knows he'd get his ass kicked.

Nott rue I guess you seem to miss the last 50+ Year of our History with the USSR and China then huh.

What are you referring to?

Hmmm you really don't know about Chavez closing down TV Stations,Newspapers, and Radio Stations that don't say how great of a Person he is.

Or how he has sent out Hit Squads to take out his rivals

You're seeing this as some kind of benefit to them. I'm looking at the potential benefit to us. Maintaining an embassy does not equate to holding high level discussions. It's simply a means to hold a dialogue and have access to official channels.

I know what's commonly referred to as such. I also know the reality of the situation and the inaccuracy of the popular misconceptions about his government's activities in regard to that situation.

Or how he has sent out Hit Squads to take out his rivals

I haven't heard this one from even the most anti-Chavez elements, actually. Perhaps you're referring to some of the violence that's occurred during protests against him?
