South Carolina Governor Admits to Extramarital Affair (title updated)

No worries, was not sure if you had just missed it.

Nope! Just not used to the feature. The last forum I was on had a quote feature, but it was an act of congress to use it, so I didn't most of the time. Glad you feel better, though.

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

"I believe Mark has earned a chance to resurrect our marriage."

How did he earn a chance at anything?

If Jenny wants to forgive him, that's certainly her right and her business.

Agreed on the scumbag part but that doesn't make his philosophy on the federal spending bill incorrect.

You're right. How dare you bring reality into this. :2wave:

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

But, then you totally ignore posts such as these:

Oh, wait, you're both Liberals...nevermind.

First, I noticed you because you have ap and an s in your name. I noticed you signed up and announced yourself in the Hi forum. But then I see you write like a high school kid who doesn't want to have any sort of intelligent discussion on this matter. Instead, you just want to slam liberals. Your very first post was immature and....frankly...unintelligent. Buh bye. You are officially on ignore. I don't waste time reading childish horsepoop.

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

Statement from First Lady Jenny Sanford

"I believe Mark has earned a chance to resurrect our marriage."

How did he earn a chance at anything?

Wow.

Reading her statement literally brought tears to my eyes. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to find out my husband was having an affair adding in that the entire country knows about it....it's now international news because his lady lives in Argentina AND I've got four kids I'm trying to protect.

I don't know anything about Sanford's wife but her statement really moved me. I feel for her.

:(

Does that mean I don't have to listen to these silly assed posts any longer? That's the best news I've heard all day.

They have actually done that in the past.

She seems like a decent lady... it made me sad too. He really showed his family a lot of respect.

Re: South Carolina Governor Admits to Extramarital Affair

And I believe he may have used state funds to travel to Argentina. So he doesn't want the federal government's money because of wasteful spending but he thinks using state money is okay.

I just cannot fathom how he thought he could ever get away with this.

So since I believe he may have used state funds to travel, im going to then make assumptive statements of hypocricy based upon my belief.

Sure. You can make assumptions based on facts that may or may not be true. I do this all the time. But I am also willing to change my mind if the facts prove otherwise. ALWAYS.

Isn't it illegal for Catholic priests to have penises?

I think the second conference of Nicea ruled that it was o.k. to have a penis as long as you felt very, very guilty for having one.

What facts are there? Every bit of information that was put out is now in question, not really sure what you can consider a fact, except for the FACT that the governor admitted to having an affair and his ole lady threw him out of the country for a little while.

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

Sanford need only change his party to Democrat, screw a 20-year-old intern in a beret, and he'll enjoy 60 percent approval ratings among his party sheep.

No one I know approved of his behavior, but Americans were much more appalled at the republican witch hunt.

...that and the best run economy of our lifetime.

Sounds like some kind of middle-aged hormonal lunacy, - one of the most unprofessional scandals since Marion Barry was caught smoking cocaine. It went far beyond just an affair since he snuck out of the country, breaching some critical sworn duties, - even the ltn. governor was clueless, so there was a void of executive power which should never happen.

And this was a "rising star" in the Republican party, being considered by the party for a run for the Presidency? How far the GOP has fallen.

Just because someone is a "rising star" doesn't mean their personal life individual actions are representative of the entire group.

If that were the case we can wonder how far the NFL has fallen after the Micheal Vick deal, and that other NFL player whose name escapes me that was drunk driving and killed a jaywalker.

Sure it does. Obama, because he was a democratic nominee in 2008, must have cheated on his wife with cancer.

Do as I say, not as I do!

Now, can I borrow $200 for a hooker? :2wave:

And to think, this guy is on the GOP Governor's revival poster.

This is ignorantly not true.

Anyway, I feel so embarrassed for him about the posting of the e-mails. THAT is wrong, no matter how entertaining they are. I would be horrified if my personal e-mails were posted for all the world to see. Shame on the media who are posting them!

I absolutely agree. Revealing his personal email messages is over the top and totally unacceptable. The man has taken his (well-deserved) lumps and will suffer this embarrassment for the rest of his life. Posting his personal comments is unnecessary and tacky beyond belief.

So much for Republican family values.

Again.

I still don't believe his story though. I think he was doing something else.

Do you think maybe he was in a bathroom stall somewhere doing the toe-tap special with a certain ex-senator from Idaho ;)

Well, when I was watching Hardball last night, one of the guests on Matthews's show stated that there was evidence that some of the trips he took were paid by state funds, which Politico was going to announce. I didn't take the time to go check out that fact. But, I just did, and lo and behold: Some Mark Sanford trips were taxpayer-paid - Kenneth P. Vogel - POLITICO.com

I don't have a problem with stating something on here that later proves to be inaccurate and admitting that the fact I stated was wrong.

Re: South Carolina Governor Admits to Extramarital Affair

Sanford has consistently opposed any form of relationship recognition or even adoption rights for gay South Carolinians.

South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who on Wednesday admitted to having an extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina, is also an outspoken advocate for "traditional marriage" who has consistently opposed any form of relationship recognition or adoption rights for gay South Carolinians.

As a U.S. representative, Sanford voted in 1999 to bar gays and lesbians in the District of Columbia from adopting. In 2002, while running for governor, Sanford answered to a survey question that marriage should be restricted to heterosexual couples, and that same-sex partnerships should not be recognized with a separate accommodation such as civil unions.

Last week Sanford told his staff that he would be hiking the Appalachian Trail, but it eventually emerged that he traveled to Argentina to be with his lover. He spent nearly a week in South America, including Father's Day, with the woman. "I spent the last five days of my life crying in Argentina," he said at a press conference today.

Sanford was one of a handful of hopefuls that some were eyeing to carry the Republican presidential ticket in the 2012 election. Others include governors Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Sarah Palin of Alaska, and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota.

So... he advocates traditional relationships... one man, one woman, I assume.

Not only does Sanford oppose same-sex marriage, he also opposes civil unions as well as gay adoptions.

Another upstanding politician caught ignoring the values he claims to represent.
