South Carolina Governor Admits to Extramarital Affair (title updated)

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

He told his staff that he was "spiking the Argentina tail." They HEARD "hiking the Appalachian Trail."

Honest mistake.

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

BTW: Watch for "hiking the Appalachian Trail" to turn into a methaphor for bad behavior.

"He said he was taking some time away from his job to concentrate on other matters, but rumor has it he was 'hiking the Appalachian Trail,' wink, wink!"

:ranton:

Big ****ing deal. The governor went on vacation perhaps in secret! When someone can PROVE or give EVIDENCE about something illegal or wrong then I'll give a damn. But this is nothing but a whole article of begging the question, circumstantial evidence, and speculation!

Below are CNN's ridiculous smear attempts. I theorize that this guy pissed off someone and they are out to crucify him for anything that can be imagined. What a ****ing non-issue.

Sanford's staff and family seemed to be in the dark about his whereabouts. Sanford also said no one else accompanied him, the paper reported.
He must have been doing something naughty. If only we had PROOF instead of rampant speculation. GUILTY until proven innocent, right?

South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler said in a statement Wednesday it was the "height of irresponsibility for the governor to walk out on his solemn duty to the people of South Carolina."When it comes to the real needs and concerns of South Carolinians, Mark Sanford has been pretty much missing in action for the last six-and-a-half years. But it is not acceptable for him to be actually missing."However, as disturbing as it is to walk out on your responsibilities without telling anyone, what's more troubling is that the governor and his staff have been less than truthful about his whereabouts," the statement said.
We need to tag all politicians with tracking devices. I mean its not like they get elected based on the peoples votes or its not like this guy has a right to privacy.

Sanford's wife Jenny told CNN Tuesday she had not talked to her husband since he left last Thursday and did not know where he went."I am being a mom today. I have not heard from my husband. I am taking care of my children," she said outside the couple's beach home on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina.
And he is an absentee father!! What an evil bastard.

Following confusion over his whereabouts, a Sanford spokesman said Monday that the governor had been hiking along the Appalachian Trail.A black Chevy Suburban believed to have been used by Sanford to leave town was spotted Tuesday in the parking lot of Columbia Metropolitan Airport.CNN was alerted to its location by a law enforcement official. The SUV was outfitted with blue police lights and two-way radio. A parking permit for the school attended by Sanford's children was on the windshield.State Sen. Jake Knotts, a fellow Republican and adversary of Sanford, said South Carolina law enforcement officials informed him Saturday that the governor had taken a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division vehicle on Thursday and had not yet returned."I found out that he was taking frequent trips at odd times of the night in a SLED car with no security," Knotts said. "He would be driving. I got wind that he had taken another one of these types of capers last Thursday, and that nobody knew who he was with.
He must be doing something immoral now. Why else would he do these highly suspicious things that luckily CNN is there to report but can't do anything but BEG THE QUESTION.

"He needs to transfer the power and let the lieutenant governor, which the constitution requires, let him be the person that makes the decisions." Knotts said."My concern was, 'Who would be in charge should an emergency arrive for the safety of the people and citizens of the state?'"
because I'm sure the whole state collapses into disarray without their precious governor. THINK ABOUT IT: if a governor is unknowingly killed or trapped in an emergency I guess everyone is equally as ****ed.

-----

This story just reeks of hidden agenda and partisan hackery. I'll theorize again: this guy pissed off someone and now he's getting retribution. Its not news, its CNN.

Holy hell that is alot of spin there. You took alot of pretty innocuous statements, and somehow saw things in them that just are not there. This was legitimate news in that the governor of a state disappeared, and those who should know his whereabouts did not. Everything else follows naturally from reporting on that news story, and nothing you listed looks to be even suggestive that he did anything wrong, except possibly not notifying his lt. governor.

The only actual negative thing in your whole list of examples was from a democrat in SC, who, surprise, spun it into a negative light. Again, there is nothing wrong with interviewing people in SC politics about an SC politician.

My favorite though is how you spun his wife saying she was taking care of her kids into being somehow CNN suggesting he was an "absentee father". Truth is, there is no remote suggestion that he is anything less than a perfectly acceptable father.

Take a deep breath, calm down a bit, and stop trying to find even liberal bias in everything.

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

I agree this does sound fishy. There is a chance that this is yet another Republican lack of morals scandle in the brewing.

THREE POSTS IN AND I HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD....ANOTHER LACK OF MORALS SCANDLE IN THE BREWING..

People that were hacking me for this can start submitting their apologies anytime......

He's on TV right now admitting to his affair and cheating on his wife in Argentina..

Another one bites the dust.

The whole thing is weird.

Heh. My suspicion that he had himself a honey in Buenos Aires was absolutely correct. (Men are soooo predictable.)

From The Atlantic:

Check it out:

Sanford's Fugue: "It's Gonna Hurt."

Confesses affair / Resigns from RGA.

"There are moral absolutes. ... There are consequences if you breach that. This press conference is a consequence. The bottom line is this: I've been unfaithful to my wife. I developed a relationship with ... a dear, dear friend from Argentina. It began"very innocently...as many of these things do...over last year, it developed into something much more than that. I hurt her, I hurt you all, I hurt my boys...

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

Heh, and I just thought this was an amusing story.

SC Gov. Mark Sanford says he's had an affair - Yahoo! News

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he's been having an affair with a woman from Argentina and will resign as head of the Republican Governors' Association.

The married father of four emotionally apologized to his wife, staff and others at a news conference after returning Wednesday from a trip to Argentina that followed a dayslong absence. His staff had said the Republican was hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

I usually disprove of nosing into politicians private affairs, but the strangeness associated with this one led to this end. Hopefully now the media will drop this, since it went from a disappearing politician, into something that is none of our business.

Yes, I know it is a long shot.

except each one of them has been mentioned in this thread by someone being serious. You FAIL due to demonstrable contradictions in this very thread!

I'm surprised no one has yet tried to demonize him for having using a law enforcement vehicle......(That's your cue Will)

This was legitimate news in that the governor of a state disappeared, and those who should know his whereabouts did not.
No that's not news. It would be news if he was still missing and his family was actually worried!

Everything else follows naturally from reporting on that news story, and nothing you listed looks to be even suggestive that he did anything wrong, except possibly not notifying his lt. governor.
Apparently you need to re-read the thread to see how many of the sheep understood it. Read Willsrockwell's posts if you really don't understand how desperate and petty some can be to make even the most innucuous of occurances of events into mud to throw.

Someone posted something similiar about missing fathers day. Please READ!

Obviously others disagree.

I'm sorry you can't see the obvious fact that politicians will sink to any level to impugn the characters of their opponents and the media will never let a story go to waste. This is a shining example of such. Some of us have been around long enough to recognize when such slight-of-hand attempts are being made. The fact that you CAN'T recognize it makes it all the more important that it is exposed and thoroughly and publicly denounced.

You are either acting or are simply oblivious to the fact that this is being used as an attempt to impugn the governor's reputation. The serious posts in this very thread is evidence enough to PROVE my point.

Argentina? Was she like a s. american hottie or what?

Re: SC governor's whereabouts unknown, even to wife

SO I guess sex of a politician does matter now? Is this the official left wing stance?

South Carolina Governor Admits to Extramarital Affair

CNN said:
(CNN) — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, just back from a secret trip to Argentina unknown to his staff or his wife, admitted Wednesday he engaged in an extramarital affair.

Well, after the good Governor here disappeared for almost a week and no one knew where the hell he was, he said he was on a nature walk, now we hear he traveled to Argentina, and now he admits to affair.

Another rising star Republican down :)

It doesn't say with a man or a woman. One-night stand or on going relationship.

Only when that politician is a member of the "family values" set that abandons his family and offices with no notice, to go somewhere unknown for an undetermined amount of time, to do unmentionable things to someone that isn't his spouse.

Good ol' family values!
