If I were a smoker, at this point I would just consider growing tobacco illegally in my backyard. Even though it's still bad for you, it would have far less additives, and a few plants would supply a large yield. I'm more against bigger government than I am against tobacco smoking.
Absolutely. A lot of people also don't smoke and still get lung cancer or various other forms. A person very close to me got cancer on his vocal chords from singing too much...

As Bill Hicks once said: "Non-smokers die every day. Sorry."

It be my luck that I'd quit and on that day I'd get hit by a bus, just before I hit the ground because I fell off a building.

Cannot ban it unless you ban liquor and the likes with it.

The government won't outright ban something that is making it money. They know people are genuine addicts to this drug and so by creating more barriers to accessing it, people will end up paying more to fulfill their addiction. It's sick, really... both because the government is hypocritically turning its back on the function of the DEA for money, and also because it is willfully engaging in the price gouging of addicts.

This is why I support decriminalization of drugs but not legalization. Once legalized, the government will engage in these kind of tactics in addition to the corporations.

Like I said, if I were a smoker, I would just ignore the government and grow my own supply securely. Tobacco seeds can be found online and the plants need little maintenance. If the government wants to play these kinds of games then I would just remove myself from the game altogether.

Why is it, that a FEDERAL law is required to curb a legal product? Alchohol is far more deadly I believe, will flavored martinis ever be on the short list for this statist act?

My feeling are this "law" infringes on freedom just a bit more. It is a clear example of "incrementalism" and "statism" at work.

Smoking does NOT kill everyone that smokes.
    -
    I do not promote smoking.
With the exception of a cigar once in a while in my addiquitly faned addidition that I made for my smoking buddies I am a non smoker.
I used to think that any kind of tabaco would kill anyone but later in life I saw many that smoked live to there 80's amd 90's.
    One example:
1- William Sousa had one of his lungs removed when he was 19 years old and never missed smoking 1 pack of butt's every day from when he was 18 till he died at the age of 87.
2- My grandfather smoked and walked at least 2 miles every day of his life till he died at the age of 92.
3- Louie smoked cigars till he died at the age of 89.
4- Bobby B. smoked 2 pack of butts till he died at the age of 97.
5- 18 of my buddies have been smoking since they were kids and they are in their 60's with no signs of trouble from smoking.

Ok I know that they only make up a few of the smokers but those facts stand.

Whats the first question a new primary Doctor of yours asks?
Are your parents still living? If so what medical problems do they have?
If they are deceased what problems did the have and what medical condition did they die from?
Thats what you will mostly die from.

I was in error. I just looked it up, and you can grow tobacco legally in the United States. So you have nothing to worry about.

Smokers can't escape the public smoking bans but if they want to bypass government bureaucracy, there is nothing stopping them from growing their own cleaner, cheaper supply within the confines of their property.

I just skimmed your post. The anecdotal =/= statistical evidence.

that said, I am all for people having the freedom to choose to smoke or not..

Three things that are as American as apple pie: Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Attempts have been made to ban them all, while at the same time to legalize that hippy **** skunk-weed.

So do you dislike weed only because it's associated with hippies. Have you ever done it?

No, I don't "do" it and have never "done" it. I have been around people who "do" it... and is smells like unadulterated sh_it. In addition...I don't have much use for people who break the law and then file their demands under it.

Then how do you know how horrible it is? Personally, I think it's a stupid law. People unfairly demonize it when it is really no worse than alcohol. I also think there's a world of difference between people who do it every now and then and people who do it almost religiously.
