Senate Backs Apology for Slavery

My ancestors during the time of American slavery weren't even Americans. They were Germans. Can they legitimately apologize for me when not even my ancestors were a part of the deal?

According to the New Orthodoxy, merely being white means you are responsible for all the world's evils, and this burden extends to your unborn descendants for all eternity as well. Your mere existence is a crime against the planet.

Cool, eh?:)

The senate was going to apologize to the American Indians last year but I don't remember that ever happening.

The Indians were screwed over by the government. Slaves were more screwed over by the marketplace.

Hahaha come on Rev we all know that Obama has done a lot of things...

Have you seen the new puppy picture?

 nah, did you here him make a commentary to some media function about him being like oprah and having a free gift under everyone's seat, A free auto-company.....

It didn't sound like it went over so well.

The Senate and the house should apologize to everyone for the fact that they do nothing for the good of the country, but act only in their own self interest of getting reelected. As for reparations, that appears to be ongoing in the form of ACORN

Now that we've cleansed our souls on this, does this mean we can now demand one for the Zulus, Ashanti, Swahilis, and Arabs, too?

When are the Muslims going to appologize for stealing Constantinopil and invading and enslaving Spain and Portugal ?

Isn't the Senate Indians resolution just a sitting bull story ??

Yeh it was night designed to make funnies !!! Lighten up !! At least he didn't say that he can see Iranistan from the East Portico !

Didn't sometimes in the 1950's Germany apologize for killing Jews in the yet not all Germans killed Jews and not all Germans who did killed Jews were alive at the time of the apology !

So does that mean that Germany's apology for killing Jews is meaningless ?
Of course German's apology was reinforced with reparations.

Isn't it reparartions what some Blacks what either in addition to an apology or in place of an apology ?

Seems like a waste of time to me. I think actions speak louder than words.

I don't see the IRS apologizing for their enslavement of the tax payer.

That's a hyper quantum leap to equate the tax law to a form of slavery by the IRS.

Tax Payers own 60% of GM.

The consequences of slavery are very real for this generation of blacks and their parents and grandparents. I find it totally short sighted and ignorant of people to ignore this fact. An apology, issued by our government body, is a welcome move. It's about more than just "owning slaves," but rather also about the consequences of our European ancestors acting like a bunch of morons. Be a part of the move to erase racism and stop complaining about a goodwill move by our government which used to see slavery as legal.

The Senate Resolution is non binding and " It Cannot Be Used in Reparations Cases"

I know that this is a feel good action on the part of the Club of One Hundred but apologizing for slavery is about time.

Does anyone think that the Senate should not have appologized ? If so why.

Does anyone think that the Senate should have made this a binding resolution AND made it with reparartions ?

If so why.

Does any think that now that the Senate has passed this resolution Blacks shoudl shut up already, get back to work, and don't cause any more problems ?

Does anyone think that all of the 99 serving Senators should be thrown out of office for passing this resolution ?

The price for slavery was paid with the blood of over 600,000 men, so that's it, that was your reparations, it's over.

Because the people who owned slaves are long dead. That's what I mean. It's like me apologizing to some dude who my grandfather bitch slapped while a boyscout

No it's like you apologizing to some dude's grandchild because your grandfather slapped his grandfather while they were in boy scouts ;)

Hi Roadie ! As usual you bring the morality back into an "arguement". I was remiss in mentioning that this appology was not just about slavery but also about segration and the effect of Jim Crow. I truly have been mulling this appology over in my mind.

I realize that I got into a bit a "joke" mode last night with the subject but it is something that need to be discussed.

Good to see you posting friend!!! People tend to post at the level of the other posters and you raise the bar whenever you post.

Do you really think blacks have breathed a sigh of relief now? Everything cool now? One President later and "the man" continues to be white?

We live in a nation where wrongs are constantly being scrutinized, criticized, and atoned for. White people conducted a civil war and killed each other, with one of the results of victory being the abolishment of slavery. Where society failed blacks for a hundred years, whites marched with blacks for civil rights and equality across the nation. Today, blacks are famous Generals, Judges, and I here the White House aint so white these days. I believe voting in a black American president and continual historical self addressal speaks more about this nation's wish to move forward from mistakes than some cheesy insignificant apology for an event already dealt with through action and blood.
