Supreme leader: Iran vote was "definitive victory" - Yahoo! News

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran's supreme leader says there was "definitive victory" and no rigging in disputed presidential elections that set off days of unprecedented protests.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei offered no concession to opposition supporters who are demanding the elections be canceled and held again.

He blamed Great Britain and Iran's external enemies for the unrest, vigorously defending the ruling system in his first public comments since supporters of challenger Mir Hossein Mousavi flooded the streets.

Yeah he's blaming us anyway so lets support those he 's blaming us for causing.
Give them the belief that if they stick to their guns the USA is there at least verbally against this regime and behind them.

sooner or later there will be a revolution in Iran. They did it once to topple the Shah, they'll do it again to topple the Mullahs. At least I hope so .....

Well, this could be the single biggest mass slaughter in human history or it could fizzle out to nothing. Either way it will live in the hearts of Iranians for generations. We should know in a couple days. It has come down to "obey or die".....we shall see.

Says the man with the majority of the power and is unelected by the People of Iran.

He also warned consequences for protestors and i don't think the protestors will suddenly go quietly into the night. I hope the army isn't let loose and people get hurt

The Iranian People need to straight up revolt. Everything is their for them to do so as well, rid themselves of the clerics and install instead an elected government which wields the power and soveriegnty of the Iranian People. Not some figure head who is subservient to some unelected cleric.

It's rather perverse, but if the army does get let loose such an attempt at restoring order via military crackdown would be the thuggish sort of overreach that would give the growing insurrection unstoppable force. From what I have seen in the news, the people are that disenchanted with Khameni's regime.

Just the fact that the focus is moving from Ahamenijad to Khameni is a tectonic shift in public perception of the Islamic Republic of a sort that should give the mullahs plenty of cause for worry.

A theocracy that loses moral legitimacy has no basis upon which to govern.

The thing is that these are the sons, brothers, and husbands of the Iranian people. They aren't a detached unit, they live and work with the rest of the people. Many of the IRGC voted for Mousavi. If they can spin it as the spirit of the 1979 revolution having been lost to politically corrupt power brokers, will the revolutionary guard turn on the people of Iran?

I don't know. I don't think they will. I hope not, anyway.

That's why the Allah Akbar...it means God is supreme. It's political, and yet, non-political.

From twitter:
Molk Ybqy مع Alkfr and La Ybqy مع Alzlm: A country will survive W / O god, but not without justice (Mohammad, the Muslim prophet)

The protesters are co-opting Islam--intelligently--to strip the moral authority from Khameini.

That's why they are carrying posters of Khomeini, carrying copies of the Koran, and putting Koranic scriptures on their posters.

What is most intriguing is that, other than the reports of Basiji violence, the Revolutionary Guard has been extraordinarily passive, especially in the past few days.

Has Khameni lost confidence in the loyalty of the Revolutionary Guard?

If he has, does he still have the political clout to squelch this uprising?

Instead of repeating it...

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's supreme leader addressed the nation Friday in his first public comments since opposition supporters flooded Tehran's streets in an unprecedented challenge to the country's ruling clerics.

"The enemies (of Iran) are targeting the Islamic establishment's legitimacy by questioning the election and its authenticity before and after (the vote)," Khamenei said.

How about the USA back the will of the people to be free...

Oh that's right the "talks" are whats important.

:2wave:

....

Its a significant event.

Up til now its been about Mouzavi vs Ahmnutkabob

If the protestors continue it is them vs the State and the Supreme Leader.

The Ayatollah has declared the winner..election is over.. He has spoken.

Anyone now protesting is an enemy of the state, an enemy of the ayatollah, a lackey of the west..etc.
