Bush takes swipes at Obama policies

Bush takes swipes at Obama policies - Washington Times

ERIE, Pa.| Former President George W. Bush fired a salvo at President Obama on Wednesday, asserting his administration's interrogation policies were within the law, declaring the private sector not government will fix the economy and rejecting the nationalization of health care.

"I know it's going to be the private sector that leads this country out of the current economic times we're in," the former president said to applause from members of a local business group. "You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money."

Repeatedly in his hourlong speech and question-and-answer session, Mr. Bush said he would not directly criticize the new president, who has moved to take over financial institutions and several large corporations. Several times, however, he took direct aim at Obama policies as he defended his own during eight years in office.

"Government does not create wealth. The major role for the government is to create an environment where people take risks to expand the job rate in the United States," he said to huge cheers.

Mr. Bush weighed in on some of the most pressing issues of the day: the election in Iran, the closing of the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba, and his administration's interrogation policies of terrorists held there and elsewhere. The former president has not commented on Mr. Obama's decision to ban "enhanced interrogation techniques" such as waterboarding, which the current president has called "off course" and "based on fear."

Please Noted before posting a comment take the time to read the whole article the Headliner is very misleading, after you read the article then make you post. As usual the Media is trying for some Cheap BS Topic. Mr. Bush repetes many times that he will not be critical of Mr. Obama in this article. Thank You and start the debate.

You are right, the headline is somewhat misleading. Nothing President Bush the younger said here was inappropriate for an ex-president, and any swipes at President Obama are pretty mild. I do find the the president behind TARP and the beginning of the auto bailout saying that you cannot spend your way out of a depression amusing though.

Damn you, I wanted to post this article. I give props to Bush for the way he conducted his statements. Obama is a pansy, the last MAN to live in the WH just moved back to Texas.

    Yeah, nothing really here.

And it sounds like he's drinking again. Bless his little heart for waiting until he finished office to fall off the wagon.

I want to read his book which he says will explain a lot of things. Bush came to our UNO campus before 9/11 and one thing I remember was him complaining about congress and over spending. He was frustrated with overspending. I remember he said he wanted to increase spending by 2.3 percent - I think it was - and that congress wanted to increase it by 8 percent.

I never have the time to investigate a lot of stuff. Maybe the way our government has evolved overspending and deficits are just inevitable. Our state government is not allowed to overspend.

It's excuse making. Government spending can be reigned in.

It won't be popular and will probably cost the president a second term, but he would save the union.

Please let us not forget that the private sector is the ones in bad practice and caused a whole lot in the destruction of America.

The private sector is no longer Firm in American beliefs and values but they stand firm pursuing the Universal belief of the dollar. Companies now want to pay the common worker less and make their products cheaper but sell it higher. Those workers are becoming Global workers not American workers. Im not saying all companies but the proof is in the times. Banks had short term thinking, oil companies, insurance companies, airline companies, etc....

Under the Bush administration he allowed the private sector to thrive but the Bigger more influential companies took advantage. The private sector is neither a consensus or a foundation for growth of America anymore. The majority ask for Government handouts. Its really funny to me how Government is now treating those companies as the companies have treated the people. (except the fact that they get billions of dollars from us).

Greed has overcome values and belief and will continue.

If the private sector is what gets us out of this mess then what is the hold up? It is not government because they are giving away money like it was trash.
