Obama refuses to 'meddle' in Iran

And we have a long track record of picking the losing side. Or picking the winning side and having them turn bad. A good example of our prowess in this regard is Iran. At least Obama knows his history.

Which is more reason to stay out and simply let a revolution unfold if it is while supporting civilians, on both sides, through humanitarian efforts.

That would the worst idea since invading Iraq. It would stand no chance of working.
Agreed.

Were you under the mistaken impression that we were discussing someone else's human rights? To clarify, Stekim and I both have an Iranian friend who posts in this forum. I know that Stekim has been staying abreast of this issue, and I was the first one to post the Neda video in this forum.

I think you've prejudged Stekim (inaccurately).

I have only judged him by his words, which thus far have been vapid and rather contradicting (a "libertarian" who thinks Clinton was a good Prez) for one.

that said. I am all ears to hear how we should not have an opinion on the Iranian contest of freedom, and how Obama needs not make a strong stance for this very freedom, instead of "not meddling"...

I am always open to having my mind changed about a poster. Thus far though I have bee far less than impressed with this one.

He's got all kinds of opinions on Limbaugh, but nothing on Iran.

Oh I don't know... Perhaps something along these lines:

We are at a crossroads, do we stand with freedom, or do we say "not out biz"?

Human rights violations anywhere are the business of all of humanity. So, no, I don't think we say "NMB." But, I do not think we have the same relationship with Iran that we did with Poland. I'm not saying we shouldn't come out strongly against human rights violations. I think, however, that it is more valuable for OTHER PEOPLE to take the lead on this one.

Yeahm uhm Poland had russian nukes pointing at us. Just saying....

I am not suggesting Obama "take the lead" but to voice passing "concern" to me is weak. Very weak, and shows the world, that Obama is someone not to fear.

P.S. YOUR AVATAR IS A STRONGER MESSAGE THAN OBAMA'S "concern". nuff said. ;)

All this while Iran is squelching dissent and the contest for freedom, we can only muster "concern"?

If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?

If it is right, then it is right now. If it is right, there is no need to wait upon anyone.

Just my perspective, but it seems to me like the Iranian establishment would love nothing more than for Obama to take a strong stance on this. Makes it easier to blame the protests on CIA money and US-Jew influence.

The US is a meddler :rofl and especially when it comes to Iran.

Yo do know that the US funded and aided the Shah to gain power in the first place right? You do know that the US ran several Iranian ministries under the Shah right? You do know that the US trained the Shahs secret police (with the help of the Israelis ironically enough), which even today is seen as one of, if not the most, brutal organisations ever to exist? You do know that the US propped up the Shah and his regime for years?

Do you really think that Iranians will forget these acts over night just because the American people have ignored it for decades?

Obama is doing exactly the right thing.. stay the hell away from the situation as any US involvement will only help the sitting government which is something most people dont want.

Enough of your anti-American rhetoric.

Iran's government is bull**** and it needs to be terminated.

I realize there are some european countries that lack the balls to do anything about it. The USA has the balls and we should be using them.

Your shameless anti-American tirade is uneeded here.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Obama refuses to 'meddle' in Iran

/*/-unnecessary..he has got to stop saying the USA is a meddler...
*****-Totally unnecessary. Even though I agree with him that there is not much difference between the two he is telling everyone the :usflag2: USA :2usflag::ind: thinks there's no real difference..iow can you all just get along please..thanks BO

US diplomats are telling the Iranian government about the talks Obama wants to have...and officially downplaying the protestors.
But lets fool ourselves..

So far I haven't seen any evidence that anyone cheated. A bunch of people who are pissed off, protesting and rioting because their guy lost does not equal evidence of anything. Good for Obama for not sticking his nose into Iranian elections. Would we Americans appreciated some anti-American Eurotrash trying to meddle in our elections because they despise Bush when the crack pot conspiracy theorist over here were claiming Bush Cheated When he beat Gore and when he Beat Kerry? I do not give a **** about Iran. IF they try to do something to us or our allies them we should or let one our allies turn Iran into a **** stain on the side walk or a glass parking lot.

I worry about the effect verbal intervention of the president of the great Satan will have on my green brothers.

Would it not increase Almajackboots supporters belief they are right

With Obama in office America's "balls" are about as useful as my balls POST-Vasectomy.

They will anyway.

On 6/23/09 retired Colonel Jack Jacobs stated on the Imus In The Morning Show the protesting is over in Iran and that Iran is now a military dictatorship versus the theocracy launched in the revolution 30 years ago. He also stated Korea and Iran are going to becom major allies especially when they are both nuked up for wars. ("Axis of Evil" GWB called it)

...because "Balls" are defined as rushing in, "cowboy style", to do God knows what, making the situation infinitely worse but making the neocon wingnut feel "manly" in the process.

Thank God the grownups are running things now.

Did you fail math when you were in high school?

Major cities of Iran and their approximate populations:
City Population

If you add togther the populations of all of Iran's major cites ... those numbers do not come to 40 million. The election was rigged.

You fail!

RighinNYC ---stop brownosing!
