Obama Extends Fed Benefits to Unmarried Partners, Including Same Sex Partners

I wonder how many billions this adds to the federal deficit?

Even if one red penny, its too much !
I now think far less of Obama, now that he has knuckled under to the homosexuals and their supporters.

"White House officials said Obama would respect existing laws, which block many benefits such as health care. But the decision would allow employees' domestic partners to be added to a government insurance program that pays for long-term conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease.

The memorandum also would allow employees to use sick leave to take care of domestic partners and their children."

Not enough. Obama is using this for nothing but political gain and it is too little, too late. He is offering small incentives to a voting block that has become increasingly frustrated, and downright resentful, with the administration. If he were really concerned about gay rights, he would introduce legislation that made real changes.

Funny, I think a little more highly of him now that he has disregarded the idiocy of anti-gay marriage proponents and their supporters.

They will do it the same way private companies do. It's not rocket science. And for the record, my employer never checked to see if I was actually married. So for all they know I am taking advantage of them.

My employer just did an audit on its health insurance benefits and selected a large group of employees to provide proof that the dependents they were claiming were actually legitimate. They had to submit pay stubs, tax returns, marriage licenses, birth certificates, etc. Failure to do so resulted in termination of their health insurance.

Not nearly enough. I don't have a lot of negotiating room on moral issues.

That's not a very good way to bait, it's to obvious.

No bait, it is a fact that gays do form lasting and loving relationships and get married every day. If the meteric is commitment for relationships lasbians have the highest rate of being together with one partner for life.

Why? In oder to compete for talent the government needs to offer competitive pay and benefits. We always (rightly) complain about how bad government workers are. Eliminating benefits from government jobs will only make that worse.

Since it involves tax dollars, they need to give them across the board and not discriminate based upon sex, race, marital status, sexual orientation, blah, blah, blah..

Since it hasn't been doing so, these benefits need to be eliminated.

What private companies choose to do is up to them, since it involves private money.

To prove marriage all you need is the right paperwork. What do you do to prove you're in a relationship, make out with the person in front of your employer?

Obama should not be doing this because rather than acting as a stepping stone towards gay marriage, it devalues marriage and encourages people to stay in relationships that may not last just to get more benefits. First gays should be allowed to get married, then they should get the same marriage benefits as everyone else.

How many lesbian couples are raising children?

I don't doubt that. I'm sure some employers do. But it isn't many. I'm 41. I've been working since I was 16. I've never been asked to provide proof of anything other than proof I was legal. But I'm sure some employers somewhere check some people at some point.

My point was that no one has ever asked me for proof of marriage. And even if they did and I was not married it's not hard to fake a document. And the odds of them checking marriage records is pretty damn slim.

How many lesbian couples are raising children?

You would be surprised. I know there are over 1million kids being raised by gay couples. I also know I'm raising with my girlfriend that I cohabitate with. I just paid for his private school tuition bevcause his lame ass dad will not pitch in.

I can not link now I'm on my phone.

Dav -- What do you know about Domestic Partnership laws and Common Law marriage laws?

Again, (for the 5th time) what are the parameters? How does a couple qualify for these benefits?

Dav? Jerry? Truth?

I now pronounce you Chuch and Jerry... ;)

:prof Ignoring my question for clarification won't get you an answer any sooner.

I agree they need to be consistent. But I don't have a problem with government employees receiving benefits.

I don't have a problem with general benefits that all employees receive. I do object to benefits that are only given to married couples.

That's like asking a fish to stay dry. Jerry will resort to any mudslinging he thinks will stifle your voice.

He's tried it with me multiple times.

A fish has got to stay wet ;)

I asked you a question to clarify your request, care to answer it?

You want to play stupid games, fine:

I asked what are the parameters? Here was your question to 'clarify'.

No specific parameters....exactly...what's there to point out?

What I pointed out was that the article didn't give any specific information on how a couple qualifies for these benefits--the parameters of eligibility.

There's been speculation throughout the thread about boyfriend/girlfriend's and roommates getting these benefits and I'm just trying to see if anyone knows what they're talking about.

I think you knew and understood that and were dodging, hoping I would let it drop.

Care to answer now? -- What does a couple need to to in order to qualify for these benefits?

Got you. I agree. Especially when a certain class of people is prohibited from marrying.

If your going to start taking any of this personally, leave the thread. I'm not responsible if you take offense to a general statement about a group.

And hay, my sister was gay. She chose otherwise since then.

edit:
I need a link to a non-pdf please. This comp can't open them.

No can do with the non-PDF. Buy a new computer.
