Gee I have an idea lets write them a nasty letter and not sell them stuff. Because that really works...
Complete global isolation except for food and medication meant for civilians is a good place to start.

No funding, no support, and global blacklisting.

Then -- UN forces search all vessels entering or leaving North Korean waters. Any ships containing materials North Korea is not supposed to have can then be seized and destroyed.

Once the NK disposes of their nuclear arsenal, all of the above the sanctions can be lifted.

    Already tried in the 90's.

North Korea laughed and let thousands die form starvation until the west broke. Then they used the aid to feed supply their military.

Already been done now for about 15 years(look around every once and a while a news item about stopping a NK vessel will have been reported.)..North Korea is more it continues shipping arms around the world..even lost some engineers when Israel bombed a Nuclear Reactor they where building in Syria.

North Korea has made clear any such action will mean war and China(NK Ally) has said the UN will not enforce its sanctions by force.
US has also said it won't even stop the ships.

Not only has it been tried by even before their nasty note dries they are wimping out.

North Korea has made clear they are done talking about how they will not have nukes..they have them and they will keep them

The entire world got an eye full of how pathetically weak the west especially the USA has become with Iraq.
Basically time is past up and once again the west is showing their big talkers..and that is it.

Re: NKorea says it will 'weaponize' its plutonium

It seems to me that the US can do little to effect NK atomic programs. It is interesting to read those with a Bush hangover bleating about how if US resources were not used in Iraq, the US military could 'do something' about NK nukes. This is nonsense on a couple of levels, the most obvious being that NK is a Chinese client state sharing a nearly 900 mile border and a couple of billion dollars a year in trade.

The NK's will continue to act in a belligerent manner while the leadership succession is worked out and their military is bought off by political leadership. Sanctions will not effect the military or political elites; civilians will again starve by the hundreds of thousands, without a tear being shed.

This is a dangerously unstable regime that is being fostered and protected by China. Like it or not, there is little, short of a war we are ill prepared to fight, that will cause the NK's to change their behavior. In the short term, look for some confrontation in the shipping lanes and hope for the best. We are in for a rocky ride.

I wonder how accurate it would be to call North Korea a "vassal state" of China which they (China) are using to threaten us while still selling us tons of cheap goods?

I'm not sure it's a threat but it is damn sure a major nuisance that highlights, as others have pointed out, the limits of American power.

Then maybe it's time to unify the Koreas by removing the north.

China has already made it clear they are not pleased with North Korea playing with nukes.

Neither China nor Russia will support such North Korea.

Interesting how you think I have no truth, but you consistently fail to point out anything I have said that was wrong. Furthermore, you think that posts have have the snot beaten out of them have "truth." And you are excessively hypocritical. You attack me for treating Bush and Obama the same when it comes to the same circumstances and the same options they had, but you do not bash Obama when you give Bush a free pass. If Bush did it, it's okay, but if Obama follows suit, it's horrible. That's hypocrisy as its worst. At least I try to consistently treat politicians who are put in the same position with the same circumstances the same. You don't give a crap, if it's a D following their name automatically bad. If it's a R, it's okay.

And apparently not voting for him, calling him stimulus a failure and disageeing with his policies means I worship at his alter. You got a messed up view on life.
Bush was never a pussy. He was decisive. There was no nuance, you knew where he stood. I hope BO has fun sitting down with Iran re-elected president now. BO is a big pussy.

Re: NKorea says it will 'weaponize' its plutonium

    US condemns North Korean threat

North Korea's threat to "weaponise" its plutonium stocks is "provocative" and "deeply regrettable", US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says.

She said the move had been denounced around the world and would isolate North Korea's government further.

The North said it would start enriching uranium and use the plutonium for nuclear weapons hours after a UN vote for tough new sanctions against it.

The US would vigorously enforce the new sanctions, Mrs Clinton said.

Speaking during a visit to Canada, she said the latest UN moves provided the tools needed for "to take appropriate action" against North Korea.

The North says it will view any US-led attempts to "blockade" it as an "act of war".

The warning from North Korea's foreign ministry was carried by Pyongyang's official news agency on Saturday

I recall a time when Hillary was warning people this would occur..
