Ahmadinejad's campaign made it very clear that if Ahmadinejad lost that they would call voter fraud and try to invalidate all the votes. That's what we are seeing now.

On a personal note, this is fantastic news. My boss' brother is Jamal Khanjani, who is one of the 7 Iranian national Bahai leaders that the Iranian government has been trying to execute, and who still languishes in Evin Prison. His crime? Worshiping God. Moussavi has vowed to set them free, and in a sweeping acclamation of human rights, Moussavi's wife, who is also his running mate, made a quote about how man and woman are two wings of a bird, and a bird cannot fly without both: This was taken directly from Bahai scripture.

Change may be afoot in Iran, as the people have demonstrated that they do not accept the present status quo. The Mullahs had better take notice. They do it not at their own peril.

    Article is here.
Meh it's the same old **** just another pre-screened puppet of the Ayatollah. The elections in Iran are an irrelevant farce in actuality less meaningful than the elections in the Soviet Union post Stalin.

Iranian elections seem to be just as corrupt and ridiculous as U.S. ones.

    What a shock ...

The Iranian system is nothing like that of the U.S..

There theocratic system is one in which all national candidates must be pre-approved by the Guardian Council, one where half of the Guardian Council is selected directly by the Supreme Leader and the other half are selected by the Majilis (who again are pre-screened by the Guardian Council) out of a list of jurists who are selected by the head of the Judiciary who is selected directly by the Supreme Leader, and where the Assembly of Experts who choose the Supreme Leader are chosen amongst a pre-screened list vetted by the Guardian Council, and an expediency council which solves disputes between the pre-screened Majilis and the directly and indirectly selected Guardian Council are selected directly by the Supreme Leader.

It's a closed circle of power in which the Supreme Leader rules . . . well Supreme.

Ahmadinejad re-elected in Iran, Mousavi cries foul

Ahmadinejad re-elected in Iran, Mousavi cries foul

TEHRAN — Hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad resoundingly won Iran's election, preliminary official results showed on Saturday, but his moderate challenger alleged irregularities and claimed victory for himself.

The level of the incumbent's support, nearly twice as many votes as former Prime Minister Mirhossein Mousavi with most ballots counted from Friday's poll, confounded widespread expectations that the race would at least go to a second round.

Ahmadinejad's re-election is likely to disappoint Western powers aiming to convince Iran to halt work they suspect is aimed at making bombs, and could further complicate efforts by U.S. President Barack Obama to reach out to Tehran.

"It doesn't augur well for an early and peaceful settlement of the nuclear dispute," said Mark Fitzpatrick at London's International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Israel has had its fears assured. Looks like either they will have to attack on their own and hand the west a war or the west will have to back up its rhetoric instead of watching them develop nuclear weapons and accept a war.

Iran will play Obama like a fiddle....

Now there's a rigged election. Record disapproval ratings. High youth voter turnout.

    And Disco Stu wins?

    R-I-G-G-E-D.

The 67% for Disco Stu is clearly rigged. If the Mullahs were not scared, they wouldn't have shutdown text messaging, facebook, Myspace and other non-controlled news outlets.

Well Israel has made it clear that it's not going to solve the Iranian problem for the West.

How can an election travel from too close to call on election-eve to such a lopsided victory for the unpopular incumbant Ahmadinejad? Election fraud on a massive scale. Right in your face.

Not that it really matters in the slightest. The ruling clerics have clearly demonstrated once again who actually runs the dog and pony show in Iran.
