    Iran vote extended

Iran vote extended by three hours with huge turnout - Middle East, World - The Independent

"Iranians packed polling stations from boutique-lined streets in north Tehran to rural conservative bastions today for a choice that has divided the nation

At stake is re-election for hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or his replacement by reformer Mir Hossein Mousavi who favours greater freedoms and improved ties with the West.

Crowds formed quickly at many voting sites in areas considered strongholds for both candidates.

Mr Mousavi, who served as prime minister in the 1980s has become the surprise hero of a powerful youth-driven movement."

Whilst im sure everyone in the west is hoping for Mousavi its hard to see the mullahs giving him a free hand.

I don't know about that. If the Mullahs accuse him of stealing the election, and then cut off his right hand, and then give it back to him while not charging any money for it.........

The bolded part of your comments are true; and it would be foolhardy to believe that the Mullah's still will not be pulling strings and it is false that the younger crowds support Mousavi; just as many can be seen shouting out for Ahmandinejad (sounds like Jihad).

The Medias hysterics over the possible outcome and desperate assertions that this could be evidence of the effects of Obama’s speech are equally bizarre and idiotic.

    Re: Iran vote extended

My favorite bit about the Mousavi guy..I noted the BBC playing it up..

'A Former PM in the 1980's and reformer....bla bla bla'

The 1980's?..when the regime was even more lunatic then it is now...and the only reforms where applying the new regimes dominance over the populace.
