Pelosi’s ratings down, while Cheney’s improved from record low

PRINCETON, NJ -- Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Vice President Dick Cheney have little in common politically, but they receive almost identical image ratings from the American public. According to a May 29-31 Gallup Poll, 37% of Americans have a favorable view of Cheney and 34% have a favorable view of Pelosi. Both Cheney and Pelosi are viewed unfavorably by at least half of Americans.
I find this fascinating. And Rush Limbaugh is at 30%.

I guess people recognize deceitful, opportunists when they see them. I wish all three would go away.

I think America today is generally skeptic of politicians in general. No matter their political affiliation. So much of what is said over the past 20 years or so comes out as deceitful or out right lies that it is hard to believe any of them as sincere.

There is really zero transparency in our government. The voters are treated more and more like petulant children. It's less, "let's let the citizens know the facts and let them decide", it's more "let's tell them what we think they should know to make the decision we want them to make".
"Gold gets dug out of the ground in Africa, or someplace. Then we melt it down, dig another hole, bury it again and pay people to stand around guarding it. It has no utility. Anyone watching from Mars would be scratching their head."

Did you notice that Pelosi rates lower than Cheney?

In general, at least the way I see it, anything above 50% is good and anything below 50% is bad.

Considering that Bush had approval ratings close to 25% when he left though, I am very surprised that Cheney is viewed positively by as much as 37% of the population; his recent public appearances must have done their duty.

I think a better explanation is that people tend to mellow out once a politician is no longer in the public eye, constantly messing things up.

Cheney's image probably hasn't rebounded because of anything he's done; it's rebounded because the Bush Administration is no longer in power. Similarly, Pelosi is the face of a perpetually unpopular institution. When she steps down as Speaker of the House, I think it's likely that her image will rebound a bit too.

    I can't. This is important.
