Some 52 percent of people say torture can be at least sometimes justified to obtain information about terrorist activities from suspects, an increase from 38 percent in 2005 when the AP last asked the question. More than two-thirds of Republicans say torture can be justified compared with just over a third of Democrats.

On Obama's plan to close Guantanamo, 47 percent approve, while 47 percent disapprove. Most Republicans disapprove, while most Democrats approve. Independents are evenly divided.

Despite the president's safety assurances, more than half of Americans say they would be worried about the chance of terrorism suspects escaping from U.S. high-security prisons. Yet again, more Republicans express concern than Democrats. Still, the figures indicate that the GOP-fueled fear may be resonating.
The Associated Press: Poll: US divided over torture, closing Guantanamo

Seems Cheney and Limbaugh have been able to move some from the Cult of Obama.
It's only the beginning.

The nice thing about a truth commission it that it will air this out and clear things up so America can move forward...not backwards as Cheney would love us to do.

If we gained all the intel we could then there is really no more use for the detained.
So what do you do with the bomb-throwing lunatics? Given the number of released detainees who've gone back to practicing their hobby of blowing innocent women and children into tiny bits, just letting them go sounds like a really really REALLY bad idea.

What should have been done with them in the first place on the Battle Field,

ummm yeah :3oops: by no more use, I meant Scarface type no more use.

It really doesn't matter if the majority of the population believes in torture....over 50% of Germans voted for Nazis, knowing they wanted to get rid of the Jews. Torture does not work, unless you just want false confessions for some reason.

It doesn't work?

Waterboarding has worked, but alas... is not torture.

AG Holder admitted this during basic questioning. According to AG Coward, waterboarding is not torture as used by the US against terrorists because there is no intent to inflict permanent harm or to use it as retribution/vengeance.

This is clear as only three terrorists were waterboarded, and from this focused exercise we acquired valuable intel that prevented future attacks.

It's why our troops can be waterboarded as part of their training.

Why false confession? If the subject has the information they will disclose it, if they dont know and make it up then you should always have secondary sources.
