Congressman to NBA: Leave age limit out of next CBA - NBA - CBSSports.com Basketball

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) wrote a letter Wednesday to NBA commissioner David Stern and NBA Players Association executive director Billy Hunter that asks them to eliminate the league’s 19-year-old age minimum for U.S. players to enter the draft

What he doesn't have nough thing to worry about, is this something that a Congress Man should be worried about.

Beside's their is a reason that all the Pro Sports have put in age limits maybe the good Congres Man should do some research befor spotting off.

Are his constituents that obsessed with the NBA....

You don't think there are any sports fans in Congress? I don't think you can get votes here in Pittsburgh if you aren't a Steelers fan. Or is it the fact that he took three minutes to write a letter that's the problem?

    Yes.
Take out the age limit and substitute it with a 'Four Year University Degree' requirement.

Congress needs to stay out of sports. Its this kind of mindless meddling in crap that isn't really that important(even though its great entertainment), while we have core issues that need to be solved.

I mean, do we really need congressional hearings on steroid use by ball players? Do we need congress to form a commitee to try and force a college football playoff system? Do we really need congress to look at the age limit of professional athletes?

Some of us might "want" those things, but we certianley don't "need" to worry about those things as a nation.

While I agree with you on some of these point I would like to point out two items first the whole steroid thing I have to agree with some sort of investigation, my problem with the hearings that they had were just that hearings nothing really happen not sure if you know this but Baseball is one of the very few entees that are not effect by Anti-Trust laws if Congress really wants to send a message to MBL/MLBPA then threaten to invoke their Anti-trust Status.

As for College Football and the whole BCS or as many of us call it the BS system do you understand how much money is involved in College Football.

As for the Op of the thread Pro Sports have set age limits for reason and Congress doesn't need to start asking question or they can open themself up for all sort of stuff like voting age/drinking age/military service age not sure if congress really wnats to open these cans of worms.

No congressman should have the time in his schedule for this.
    Let's figure it out.
