U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) wrote a letter Wednesday to NBA commissioner David Stern and NBA Players Association executive director Billy Hunter that asks them to eliminate the league’s 19-year-old age minimum for U.S. players to enter the draft

What he doesn't have nough thing to worry about, is this something that a Congress Man should be worried about.

Beside's their is a reason that all the Pro Sports have put in age limits maybe the good Congres Man should do some research befor spotting off.
As far as I am concerned, being an athlete myself, if a 18 year old can play at the pro level that early on, then let him play.

Sure, there is an upside and a downside to it, but that goes for anything.

Is there age limits in regular work places? I am sure most are based on aptitude or experience more then age.

So why put a restriction on age for pro sports? If a 15 year old is physically/mentally mature enough to play at that level, then let him go. Kids drop out of school all the time, some wind up going back, some dont.

Congress should stay out of it, just like they should stay out of the BCS.

That is what I said. He should not have had time to write this letter.

Re: Congressman to NBA: Leave age limit out of next CBA

    Age limits are 100% bogus.
Especially today with the coin they can make.

An NBA player coming out of highschool must make the leap to college FOR ONE YEAR.
I don't care if he is 15 and NBA team wants to sign him. If he has the goods... do it if you and your family decide it's OK.
It's obviously what the individual loves, and if someone is willing to secure his future by ponying up huge cash at that age... perfect for him and his family.

What happens if a career ending injury occurs during that year in college?
He could end up bagging groceries if he isn't truly capable of making it through school.

On the LPGA and PGA they've done the same moronic thing.
Golfers peak at different ages. With women it's possible to have a prodigy at a younger age than men, and often it's early on.
For what purpose do they do this? To protect them? From what? From what they love to do... from their family?

This is all about nothing but PC BS.
Denying qualified people from doing a job they excel at and love.

What about the kids in and just out of highschool doing hard labor?
Using the same measure we should deny them their jobs too.

....I don't get it....he wrote a letter to the NBA? I'm sure there is a point to this thread somewhere.....If NBA fans cared about the age requirement being unfair to kids under 18 I'm sure they would have said something by now.
