    Poll: Most oppose closing Gitmo

Hey, if it's relevant for Supreme Court nominees . . .

Poll: Most oppose closing Gitmo - USATODAY.com

WASHINGTON Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.

By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn't be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.

The findings underscore the difficult task President Obama faces in convincing those at home that he should follow through on his campaign promise to close the prison in Cuba, especially in the absence of a plan of where the prisoners would go.

Government by polls, yeah. What's wrong with your brain?
It's a shame that people rely on polls to make their arguments. Is popularism really that important?
What's wrong with relying on polls to get a sense of what the pulse of America is? There is a difference between putting every issue to a poll or the ballot and using polls to get an idea of what America is thinking.

The reality here is...the left-wing continues to shoot themselves in the foot with their feigned outrage. Americans continue to see through their rhetoric.
Conservative logic: Popular opinion doesn't matter...except when it matters.
So, the Democratic party doesn't listen to public opinion polls??

Somebody better tell the guy in accounting writing all the big checks to professional pollsters.
Now that we got that out of the way, let's talk about the topic.

Wonder if this is why President Obama is having a hard time getting congressional support for his plan.

If Obama really wants to close Gitmo, he's going to have to override some Senator's objections and put these people in one state. Considering the trouble we've had getting Reid to allow the government to dig a 30X30 hole in a goddamn mountain to bury all the nuclear waste that would be produced in the next decade, I don't think this will be easy.

One of the state prisons in my home town is being shut down this year. We would happily turn it over to holding the people from Gitmo.

    Closing Gitmo is stupid.

This is a big loser for Obama and he crayoned himself into a corner..all to placate the nitwit extreme Far Left bozo crowd.

I like the idea I heard somewhere of simply renaming it 'Happy Sunshine Camp' and leaving it alone.

I'm actually coming around to sending them all to Montana. Hardin, Montana wants them, has a big empty prison, has an armed populace in favor of taking them and so why not?

People who oppose holding terrorists on American soil are absolute wusses. How many F-ing Cubans have made it to America. For F-sake. The only reason they used Gitmo was because, in the Bush Administrations opinion, it provided the legal limbo required to operate. Give terrorists some type of legal status that allows them to be held on American soil. Build a prison or use one of our current prisons. No need for the Bermuda Triangle of prison camps.
