Obama's Great-Uncle Says President Visiting Concentration Camp Site for 'Political Reasons' - Political News - FOXNews.com

President Obama's scheduled visit to a former Nazi concentration camp is being done for "political reasons," the president's great-uncle -- who helped liberate that camp -- said in a recent interview.

Obama plans to visit Germany's Buchenwald site as part of his multi-country tour, which begins this week.

Charles Payne, Obama's great-uncle who helped liberate a sub-camp of Buchenwald during World War II, spoke frankly about the visit in an interview with Germany's Der Spiegel magazine.

Alright I'm going to have to disagree with Mr. Obama Great-Uncle on this one, I think every President of World Leader when they go to Poland or Germany must pay a visit to any of the Concentration Camps only to see for themself's the horror and to reafreme to do everything in their power to never let this happen again.

Ummmm....every politician's visit to historical sites is usually for political reasons. Just saying. It's to create a rapport with the people you're visiting. It's kind of like going to your the house of a friend who you haven't seen in a while and them showing you around then talking about buying their car.

Non-issue really.

Re: Obama's Great-Uncle Says President Visiting Concentration Camp Site for 'Politica

So I wonder what role Mr. Payne plays in planning President Obama's trip itineraries and public relations strategies?

Re: Obama's Great-Uncle Says President Visiting Concentration Camp Site for 'Politica

This is the same great uncle that a bunch of republicans denied existed for awhile?

Re: Obama's Great-Uncle Says President Visiting Concentration Camp Site for 'Politica

I stand corrected the picture I saw yesterday was of a black man which made this all true too bad who I saw must have been in Kenya,
I was wrong and admit it. The fact he was white changes nothing but the fact the camp was liberated before our troops got there.

The whole story of Obama's uncle having anything what ever to do with the Liberation is questionable when compared to some of the facts. Such as the first soldiers who arrived at the Buchenwald camp on April 11, 1945 were with the 6th Armored Division of the US Third Army. The camp had been liberated by the prisoners 4 hours pior to their arrival.
The American army was segregated during World War II, with white soldiers fighting in exclusively white divisions while black and Asian soldiers had their own separate divisions, commanded by white officers.

Five days after the first white soldiers were on the site, on April 17, 1945, several black soldiers were sent to Buchenwald to deliver some supplies. For most of the liberated prisoners, this was the first time they had ever seen a black man, and many of them would recall it later in their survivor accounts.

So they did not help to liberate the camp as claimed from I could tell. I knew George Patton's Driver, his name was Coiner he was my Boss for 14 years. Black guys were cooks and supply truck drivers not involved in combat generally.
Sorry Obama join Pelosi in the liars club.
Who really liberated the Buchenwald Concentration Camp on April 11, 1945

Political reasons? Is Obama trying to shore up the anti-Nazi vote? He's about 70 years too late.

Re: Obama's Great-Uncle Says President Visiting Concentration Camp Site for 'Politica

If Obama did NOT visit the concentration camp, his critics would be all over him, asking "why not?" Since he's going, they're all over him for doing it for "political reasons."

This is in the wrong section. Stories like this belong in the "No Sh*t" section.

Re: Obama's Great-Uncle Says President Visiting Concentration Camp Site for 'Politica

Presidents travel, and that he wants to go to Buchenwald, fine.
I'm not against any part of the trip, but I don't like what he does to America on them.
I hope he takes his Uncle, an American hero.

You need to stand much more than "corrected" because President Obama's relatives who served in the US ARMED FORCES were all from his Mother's side of the family and she was White and they all were White.

Now he may have had some relatives from his Father's side but they were Black and they were not Americans and they would have served IF THEY DID in the British Empire's regiments for "colonials". I don't know for sure but I do nt beleive that the Brits had any Kenyans serving in Europe during WW II and if they did I do not believe that any of they were near concentration camps.

You guys neess to get your facts in gear. You nned to stay focused on credability !!! You post has none !!!!

ps any Brits here who know if Colored colonials served in Europe in any visible manner ???

The Tuskegee Airmen would like to have a word with you.

I wanted to thank you for your post but Councilman is correct. GENERALLY, Blacks did not fight in combat in WWII. There were several exceptions to this, the Tuskegee Airmen being one of them.

Here is a fantastic database of African American contributions in WWII where you can see numerous other exceptions.

WWI through WWII - Part II

Here's one.

11 March 1944 Bowing to increasing pressure that African-American troops be allowed to fight, the War Department instructed the Army to transfer control of the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment to the operational control of the 148th Infantry Regiment. Company B came under attack the same day that it moved forward to reinforce other Army units in contact with Japanese forces on Bougainville, making it the first black American infantry unit to engage in combat during the war. Two of the company’s men—Private First Class Leonard Brooks and Private Annias Jolly—were the first members of the 24th Infantry Regiment (as well as the first black infantrymen) killed by enemy fire in WWII.

Actually I don't think anyone is allover him on this, the only one seem to be making any complaint is this so0called long lost Uncle hell even Rush thinks it's a good idea.

Look Blackness is not an issue here since the uncle in question is White. The entire issue of Blacks serving near concentration camps is moot!!

Fact is what I wrote was correct because it was in regard to the 3rd Army under Patton. Try not to pick and choose and not read everything like the link which even the Tuskegee airmen would say was true. Had you done this you would see there were all black combat units but not at the camp at the time in the 3rd Army.
