I am not seeing a reference to President Obama saying word one about the auto execs flying separate private planes to Washington November of last year. Congress yes, Obama no.

But, in all honesty, I do remember getting sideways myself when Clinton and Bush use to jet set around on Air Force One doing "fundraisers" and whatnot. I always wondered if that was on the taxpayers dime too.

But, as I said earlier, it's all just so damn petty. :rofl

Please show me one time when Mr Bush or Mr. Clinton decide to take Air Force 1 up to NYC for a dinner date and show. The big difference between them and Mr. Obama is that they understand when and why to use Air Force 1

Try to keep on target here Bush spent a lot going to Texas and back, but when was that? Mostly before the recession mess we're in today.
Obama cost Las Vegas in the neighborhood of 108 million dollars the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled because of Obama making an offhand remark in which he appeared to link Sin City to corporate excess.

The operating costs are $56518 per hour for Air Force One . These figures are based on the per-hour cost figures cited by GAO. Not to mention the pollution caused by the plane. Here is a case where a Corperate sized jet would help.
Isn't this the same guy that ragged on the CEOs for Ford, GM, and Chrysler for using their jets during a recession?

Although, we all know he can't just jump on a commercial flight or take a cab, he should have taken a smaller plane. Oh wait! He did! :roll:

No, the issue here, as I understand it, is that there are folks whining becuase Obama took his wife out on a date while GM was going bankrupt. Trying to compare him to Nero as Rome burnt.

I see it for what it is. Desperate and petty.

Reporters weren't allowed to see the soccer game. And there weren't advance details on what the Obamas would see in Manhattan. But the Obamas took a smaller plane than the jumbo jet he usually uses. White House staff and reporters flew in two similar aircraft.

A White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, said the smaller planes were used because fewer aides traveled with the presidents and the planes were more efficient than the big jet.

All in all, this is one of the worst criticisms of Obama that I could imagine. Anytime the president goes ANYWHERE, it costs a **** ton. The whole "Bush didn't do it during a recession" thing is retarded - yes, he did.
 
There are a few relevant differences and asymmetries in the comparisons being thrown around. Flying the president to New York certainly beats driving him to New York. It's just not that big a deal.

First, if the president wants to go to New York and see a show and have dinner, let the man go. Maybe getting a night off will help him do his job better. Bush spent something like 2000 days in either Crawford or Camp David over his two terms. The idea is to help the president relax and get some downtime to help him do his job better. I'll support the concept of getting any president to do the job better. The expense is comparatively minimal, and his use of AF1 already budgeted. It's not a big deal.

Second, the CEO's came to beg, and they came in corporate jets. That was what garnered the criticism and got them laughed out of town.

Third, I don't think AF1 is one specific plane. I think it is whatever plane the president is on. Correct me if I'm wrong. It *could* have been a much smaller plane than what people are assuming.

It seems like people are up in arms because he's not staying longer...???

Would you prefer he take more days off to make the AF1 bill a better daily rate? I don't understand the outrage, as usual.

There are way better things to be pissed about.

metro-Yes any time the president is airborne that aircraft is issue the Call Sign AF1 it doesn't matter what type of Fixed Wing aircraft it is. Like wise when the President is Airborne in any form of Rotary Wing it is called Marine1
 
I know that my wife and I jump on a plane at least 3 or 4 times a year and head outta Dodge. And I'm just a flunkie. :3oops:

The President of the USA ought to get to go out at least as much as I do, one would think. It's not an Obama, Bush, or Clinton thing. It's a President thing. It costs an arm and a leg for them to just go jogging. That is the price we all pay for having a president.

What had people up in arms is that they flew 3 separate private planes, all from and to the same place to beg for money.

While it may seem extravagant to spend 10s of thousands of tax payers dollars for a night in the big apple let us not forget the Pizza for lunch party that may have cost up words of $20,000 to $40,000 for 20 or so Pizzas. Then the expense to fly to Vegas to raise money for Harry Reid and and disrupt traffic and add 10s of thousands of dollars more to the Metro Police costs and other peripheral expenses and we're just 5 months into the tax and I'll spend it running around having fun Obama do as I say fun fest.
By the way it costs serious money for Air Force One to just be sitting anywhere with a crew, staff and all the security required while the Pres. is doing his thang.
If he'd leave the plane sitting for two hours instead of playing big shot he could bail me out with the money he'd save.
