Horrifying Details Emerge in Hearing on Virginia Tech Murder

any chance a mod can change the name of this thread from crazy asian cuts girls head off to gun rights debate???

maybe? just thought...

but again i could only get through the first 40 replies

In the article it says plainly that the list is incomplete yet.

I can name more incidents in victim-disarmament zones.

The Amish school massacre (the Amish don't have guns or believe in self-defense, talk about soft targets), and this latest decapitation for two. There have been more than that, perhaps I'll look them up if I feel like bothering.

The massacre in the gov't office (where carry is prohibited) of immigrants taking the naturalization classes. There's another.

I can't think of a single successful mass-murder taking place at a gun show, shooting sport event, or other place where there were lots of people with guns, can you?

Try this one:

Classically Liberal: When mass killers meet armed resistance.

I've delivered an artillery barrage of facts. You've expressed opinions that seem to have little connection to any facts.

Those were statements of opinion, based upon what I have viewed in national news in the last decade..

Except for this one, that I actually highlighted in my list:

Im basing that statement off of the many school shootings we have experienced in the last decade that have made national news.

No other individually identifiable classification of area had made such an impact in the national spotlight.

That is a claim of fact, not opinion, and not sourced nor backed up.

I would also point out that if these are all "just your opinion", then you back up what I was sourcing, which is that you lack facts.

Thats just merely your opinion of my statements.

linked source said:
First suicide attack by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, killing 22 and wounding 69. Carried out by two bombers; the second waited until emergency crews arrived to assist the wounded and dying before detonating his bomb.

This one took place in Israel, where armed soldiers walk the streets(I have been there and seen this). Not exactly what you ask, but close.

Its a freaking bombing.

Not exactly close, either. Are we going abroad for this argument, or can we stick to the USA?

The point was that in the USA, the large majority of mass-slayings take place in places where citizens are disarmed.

Prove otherwise.

I only see 3 in the last 20 years in the US. Kinda hard to draw many conclusions from that small a sample size.

Bother to follow Goshin's link?

Like arguing with a brick wall. Impenetrable to facts.

Done.

G'nite.

But seriously, there were *ONLY* 3... ONLY 3 incidents.. that have been incorrectly reported on... GOD.

Facts are so inconvenient to your emotional responses.

Considering your responses about college students owning guns.. don't blame me if I call you and your friends idiots.

Do you have any responses not based on irrational emotions?

They forbid guns on campus, even for those with carry permits. Works wonderfully doesn't it?

Boy, it sure is great that there were no lawfully-carried, privately owned firearms present, since the presence of guns always makes things worse.

(/irony)

Apparently there were no testicles present, either.

Federal weapons permits trump the school.

Also ... it's sad that nobody had the balls to stop the guy before he beheaded the victim.

Based on the news report, Zhu, after his arrest, spoke of the victim in the present tense. This is a sign that Zhu is delusional. In his mind, the victim, Yin, is still alive.

I would say a mental fitness exam should be administered.

According to the article one was administered and he was found competent to stand trial.

Do you have anything to offer but your opinion?

I've backed up my position with tons of facts, links, stats, sources and data supporting my stance.

You have presented nothing but your opinion.

By any rational standards you lost the debate pages ago.

What you have left is apparently nothing more than, "Is not!"

Well then.

My opinion is that these events are so rare that changing policy based on them is foolish. I backed this up with statistics showing that the most recent year with data available, no one, not a single person, was murdered on college campuses.

Possibly you've noticed there have, indeed, been quite a few people murdered on campus the past couple of years, regardless of what year you had stats for.

The issue isn't how rare it is, the issue is that it does happen, and people with carry permits are being deprived of the most effective means to defend themselves and others from such attacks.

Not just in schools, but in all other victim-disarmament zones, where clearly most of these mass killings occur.

The Second Amendment, "to keep and bear"....its not just a good idea, its the law. ;)

Actually, the issue to me exactly is how rare is it. If i is as rare as I suspect, and the best data indicates, then using an exceedingly rare event to try and shape policy is silly. Should we change how we do things every single time some one dies?

We should obey the law first.

The law says the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed.

A rinky-dink state college banning the carrying of guns on campus is an infringement on the Second Amendment.
