Once Considered Unthinkable, U.S. Sales Tax Gets Fresh Look

It is more than gas people are putting off what should be done till later and the gas bill certainly doesn't help. I use to be a Kodak rep (I drove around training sales people about photography) for N Texas and when gas hit approx 3 bucks I quit be cause it just wasn't worth it anymore.

I just raised my hourly rate. ;)

This will never happen, though I hope it does. Nothing would get his sorry ass booted (along with the rest of his crap party) than putting in a national sales tax to pay for health care. The fallout would be hilarious to watch. Then we could get a real President in there who could reverse it and institute fiscal sanity. In the long run, this would be great news for the country.

any suggestions for who might be a real president?:2razz:

And yet, President Obama has already found some cuts in spending. Not enough, but more than, for example, President Bush the younger.

No. What The Messiah found were token nicks but his has no intention of trimming the moustache, let alone shaving all of Grizzly Adams beard.

Grizzly Adams needs to be clean shaven, with maybe some little sideburns to be the Federal Government.

(are you old enough to remember Grizzly Adams?)

For that matter, Ben needs to be shaved, too.

Govt could cut spending to post Korea/pre Vietnam levels, or basically the late 50's and early 60's budgets without paying for a war. Adjust it for inflation, then live by it for a year, just to see if we can.
Freeways in the Phoenix area are well decorated and landscaped, most of which is unnecessary. Most of our libraries get very little use, except for the room where all the computers are.
A lot of businesses that are dependent on govt contracts would fail, and IMO that is a good thing. If they are not defense related, they are probably pork.
Whenever I drive out to Luke AFB I notice more and more construction that is not directly related to keeping the jets in the air.
Since we moved there in 85, a lot of the housing was upgraded, then later demolished and rebuilt. The new housing is very nice, while the old housing was at the least adequate. They tore down better housing than I grew up in, and which is still standing. I googled all my old addresses and they are still standing, houses that were old when I lived there over 40 years ago. I am all for taking care of the troops, but a lot of the money the military spends is just plain wasted. The number of streetlights per block at my civilian address is a lot lower than the ones on base. The last thing I noticed a few weeks ago is an earth berm against a block fence that appears to be decorative only. I suppose some fancy shrubs will be planted there soon.
And guess how many times the navy has changed its uniform in the last 40 years?....pretty much an obvious waste of resources.
It seems that the purpose of taxing us has become to support businesses more than anything else, but that makes sense. It is the business world that owns the politicians...

Yes, I am that old, and feeling even older.

I enjoy it when people who have no actual knowledge can tell me the real motivation that other people have in doing something.

I have actual knowledge.

What's The Messiah's deficit this year, two trillion dollars, give or take a hundred billion here or there?

What political party is he a member of? Oh, yeah, the Taxandspendocrats.

He ain't cutting squat, except perhaps major cuts in essential national defense areas, and all liberal spendocrat socialist programs will continue to have funding increases.

I prefer tax and spend to borrow and spend, as long as the funds spent do not exceed the funds taken in....
And I have personal experience with excessive spending in the military.
Some of it was considered "essential", but was so considered only by politicians, not the military itself...
The procurement process is rigged based on politics, and the annual budget process for each command is based on "use it or lose it".
No business that expects to survive is likely to be successful using govt procurement and accounting methods...
