Did I hear Pelosi mumble something about the "culture of corruption", or was it about the CIA being liars, or was it the FBI being liars?

Judge OKs Release Of FBI Wiretap Recordings Between Roland Burris And Rod Blagojevich's Brother Rob - cbs2chicago.com
Sen. Roland Burris was recorded on an FBI wiretap suggesting that he could write a check to former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's campaign before the ousted governor appointed Burris to the Senate.

At another point, Burris told Robert Blagojevich: "God knows, number one, I wanna help Rod. Number two, I also wanna, you know, hope I get that appointment."

Rob Blagojevich: "If you guys can just write checks, that'd be fine."

Burris: "I will personally do something, okay."

Rob Blagojevich: "Okay. Alright, Roland."

Burris: "And it'll be done before the 15th of December."

Rob Blagojevich: "Hey, you're a good friend. I'll pass on your message."

Burris: "Please do and... tell Rod to keep me in mind for that seat, would ya. (chuckles)"

Rob Blagojevich: "I'll let him know."

Why are we making this about Nancy Pelosi?

I am happy this evidence is going to come out and show what a scumbag Burris is. I hope he has to step down from his seat.

I don't think he can help himself aps.

I hope everyone who is dirty in this case gets hauled up some kind of charges.

Because she was the one most vocally accusing the Republicans of fostering a "culture of corruption," as if the Anti-Republicans were somehow nobler, purer, saintlier. Apparently, she never spent time in Illinois, where corruption is a requirement for being in politics.

As Dear Leader has shown on the national stage, it's "the Chicago way."

Did anyone not think that's how it went down? Of course it was paid for, it's Chicago after all. Illinois politics is dominated by the corruption of Chicago which operates on near organized crime sort of level. You do not come out of Chicago politics clean, that's just the nature of the corrupt political beast there. Chicago politicians are untrustworthy, self-centered shysters. Beware of them at all costs, they will rob you blind and that's if you're lucky.

IIRC the Democrats wanted to block Burris from being seated, but the law and the facts at the time prevented them from doing so.

Burris ouster by Senate looks unlikely

Burris ouster by Senate looks unlikely: The Swamp

"But anyone hoping the U.S. Senate will act to remove Burris in light of what appears to be his sin of omission when he testified at Blagojevich's impeachment trial, should probably dampen those expectations".

Imagine if the jury in the John Gotti trail was made up of his henchmen, can you figure out what the outcome would have been? Well the same situation is present in the Senate with liberals looking at each other saying to themselves if I go after him, what keeps others from coming after me for my injudiciousness.
It may not be a perfect fit but it's close for a group of Dem Senators to be meeting and have one say: Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. To which they would all turn and quietly fade away, saying yes it was wrong but it does not rise to the level required for us to take action to remove Burris.
Pelosi is an unrelated situation with the exception of the lying. Only in her case it's been a part of her whole political life and there is no chance of anything ever coming along to change it. Have you noticed that suddenly it's very quiet about what what she knew and when?

Both parties have engaged in corrupt practices at one point or another. That is the dark side of placing power into the hands of humans. But both sides have wonderful statemen who wish to do well for this nation. Pelosi is an idiot for even engaging in such a debate. Whether or not torture in the case of terror is right or wrong, beneficial or not is irrelevant. If the current administration does not wish to employ such tactics then they should simply remove the policy. Attempting to score points by making the prior administration and the CIA look bad is fruitless and insane. The focus should be national security, and the CIA works to protect us and they deserve our support as much as the troops. These attempts at scoring political points by going back and forth between the parties, only serve to display how low American politics have come, as this nation is ran by a bunch of children, rather than elder statesmen.

They had all the time they wanted to seat someone clean.

And Celticlord nailed the Pelosi connection.
Not surprising, in fact my bet is most R's would be able to go back and make the connection to the last midterms and the D's yammerings.

Lerxst and aps, those beacons of knowledge failed epically again on a very simple "connect the dots" exercise.

That's pundit spin-logic for you. Let's group everybody in with the scandal of the moment and bring 'em all down.

Ain't going to happen. Just makes the accuser look ridiculous.

I disagree that it makes the accuser looks bad. What it does is cement in peoples minds that politicians are crooks and not to be trusted ever. It also says to them that if left to clean their own house they would rather wallow in the mud ignoring the truth than do the right thing and clean house.

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing—after they’ve tried everything else".
Sir Winston Churchill

Ah... first off, Pelosi had nothing to do with this. Blago is not in the House of Reps.
Your partisan hackery is on overdrive with this one.

Is Burris dirty? Probably, although, that recording wouldn't get him convicted of anything in court or else he would already be on trial.

The "culture of corruption" is the repub trademark for Washington. Nice try though.

No, Pelosi is dragged into it because bitching about Burris doesn't carry the same weight. It's soooo transparent.

What part of Chicago do you live in again? That's what I thought. You're going a little nutter with the wild accusations and unsubstantiated claims.

Overdrive? LOL... and then you accuse the entire R party as having "culture of corruption" as a TM?!

Come, come... the D's have crap all over themselves... from Reid and his shady land deals, Pelosi and Feinstein, Jefferson, The Clintons (a couple books worth)... LOL...

It wasn't our party that ran around screaming about a "Culture of Corruption" during the 2006 midterms.

When we cleaned house, literally in 1994, and then found Rostankowski and a others abusing their offices... we didn't condemn the entire Democrat Party.

This time I wish the R's would scorch the earth at every turn.
But alas, the R's have no balls unfortunately.

Overdrive? LOL... no, simply "connecting the dots".

That's right. In this country you can only currently live in the place you were born in. I totally forgot, my bad. Here I though people could...you know...move. But apparently I was wrong. It's impossible from someone who was originally from Chicago to move to say Colorado. Impossible! Thanks for clearing that one up for me, I appreciate it.

I was originally from Chicago, moved out. Great city, horrible politics.

Anything else you want to run your mouth about?

Were you this disingenuous during the 8 years of the Bush Administration where Liberal pundits never tired of accusing Bush and Cheney of corruption; yet to this day there is not one shred of evidence supporting any of these lies, distortions, hyperbole and public lynching for purely partisan political purposes? I doubt it.

I am always amused that when the shoe is on the OTHER foot, Liberals and "moderates" suddenly have this convenient amnesia.

Both parties engage in this ridiculous "it's their fault," political rhetoric and it is very sad.

I'll vouch for Ikari as a native to the Chicagoland area. He grew up near where I did.

Also, he's right. Chicago, as much as I love it, is one of the most politically corrupt cities in the country.

There are decent politicians that crop up from time to time, but the vast majority are total scumbags.

So in running YOUR mouth you neglected to say something reasonable like "when I lived in Chicago, I think the politics were corrupt..." Do you or do you not currently live in Chicago? Then you have no basis to make the sweeping generalizations that you made. Now, you can continue to try and argue this or you could just admit that you have an opinion and that you used it to make generalizations.

Aren't most politicians?

But you, of all people, should know better than to back someone's sweeping generalizations. I grew up around Detroit, but I wouldn't try to tell you what's going on in politics there now...

Burris is on Hardball right now, and boy is he sounding bad.

Like every case involving corruption in politics: if he is found to be guilty, hang em high.

Shame on anyone who is using this for partisan attacks. Hatred of corruption should be bipartisan, and there should be times to leave party affiliations at the door.

Ok, Burris a sleaze.....he's from Chicago and he's a politician.

But what exactly is he supposed to be "guilty" of?

Quid pro quo in getting his seat as I understand it. Am I mistaken?
