California Supreme Court Upholds Proposition 8

I should have written "acknowledged" or "recognized" instead of transferred.
What federal law states a state must recognize DPs? I've never heard that.

It's right in the DP law itself, gimee a sec.....

In my case, she wanted out so that she could "establish me", whatever that's supposed to mean.

So I'm left standing there with my 2 boys who need an intact home thinking "wtf, you were supposed to have don that already".

I agree, men and women both get married to young. One difference I think is worth pointing out is that when a man gets married to young, he is far more likely to acclimate to the marriage ad become comfortable with it, while the woman is far more likely to become ever more frustrated.

Maybe this is one reason men are more attracted to slightly older women?

I think that I was fortunate insofar as I was 27 before I married, and was already professionally established. However, having said that, it lead to other problems. For instance, I don't think that my ex-husband particularly liked the fact that I usually outearned him by a significant margin. I didn't care, but he did. It was an ego thing. I sometimes wonder if the prolific cheating was a way of getting back his manhood and getting back at me, at the same time.

And, let me say that while men who marry younger may well acclimate to the marriage, men are also far more likely to cheat.

I know for myself that I like men who aren't too much older than me because I've found that men who are my age or slightly younger are more comfortable seeing women as equals, particularly on the job, whereas men who are older tend to view my professional success as a threat.

It's funny how divorce impacts us in weird ways. When I divorced, I could not date anyone who even slightly resembled my ex-husband. I would have a panic attack.

Even now, I prefer big tall men, and am not at all attracted to slim guys.

Would it be fair to say that women typically get married to young or before they have the chance to grow up a little, and thus make big decisions before they've developed proper judgment to know what they want out of life, out of a man?

I use women here because again, women initiate the vast majority of divorces. I'm not trying to be misogynistic, I'm trying to address the typical example per-se.

The marriage age is to old. Marriage should start much earlier. That is the way it was in olden days. They did not wait until the people were well into their sexual prime to have them get married.

If they are younger man may learn a little more respect for women then many of them do. This is why women file for more divorces. Men don't seem to have much respect for what women do. She could work harder then he does all day long and when they are home at night the women still takes care of the kids the majority of time and makes the dinners. In every case it is not like this but in a large %.

So if you are a guy that helps out don't get your panties in a knot because I don't mean you. :)

I think men AND women get married too young in the U.S., to be frank.

Wait, but then what would you say to my observation on Tuesday that "Department of Health and Human Services data has previously indicated that males aged nineteen and under divorced at a rate of 32.8 per 1,000 married couples in the year 1990, whereas males aged twenty to twenty-four divorced at a higher rate of 50.2, indicating that youth doesn't necessarily serve as an accurate indicator of the capacity to maintain a stable relationship.

Moreover, as the divorce rate increased in this country, so did the average age of marriage. That certainly doesn't imply that there's a causative link between the two, but it does imply that no especially strong causative link exists between youth and higher divorce, or a decrease in divorces would have occurred as the average age of marriage rose if there was."

I would say that women have more economic options when they marry older, and more freedom to leave bad situations.

Are you advocating that people SHOULD marry at 19?

Do we need to be Californians to register as domestic partners?
No. You and your partner must live at the same address, but you don’t have to live in California.

Will our domestic partnership be valid outside of California?

Yes. Even if you don’t live in California, you and your partner will be domestic partners.

This Q&A is a few years out of date. As a result many of the concerns expressed in it have been solved.

We're not allowed to respect women any more, Feminism put an end to that.

If we open a door, we're saying you're weaker than we are. If we verbal object you to dressing sexually, we're oppressing your free speech. If we try to protect our own ****ing children, we're violating your right to bodily sovereignty.

Is/ought problem. They *do*, but that doesn't mean they *must*. Policy revisions to remedy that state of affairs would be appropriate.

I can't broadly recommend any specific age that people should marry at; individual attributes are too widely varying for me to say anything so wide-sweeping. But it was and likely remains a reality that the stereotype of "turbulent" marriages and relationships among the young doesn't hold up.

Not sure exactly what to say to that. Most of the guys I work with (and the boyfriend) don't seem to have issues with respecting me.

I'm a good employee, a good mom, and I try generally to behave ethically. If a man wants to hold the door open for me, I'm certainly not going to punch him in the balls for it. Though, I don't need it or expect it.

I think there are some angry feminists out there, but I don't closely identify with them. Though, I will say that I think that it has gotten harder for men than it used to be to respond to what women say they want.

We do, as women, engage in a lot of double-speak. We say we want to be equals, but then we want men to pay for everything and expect them to financially support us.

I just want to be allowed to be me. I like working, I'm good at it, and I think the work I do benefits society. I like being with my kids, I'm a good mom, and I think that raising them is some of the most important work I will do. in my life.

I have nice tits, and I'm not afraid to use them, but I'm also not promiscuous. But, I wouldn't allow a man to tell me how to dress, just as I wouldn't try to exert that kind of control over him.

I take care of my home and do all the assorted tasks associated with it, including stripping and refinishing my deck last weekend, and all the yard work.

I am not particularly hung up on male/female roles, couples should delegate tasks based upon talents, versus gender. I'm pretty egalitarian, and not much of a princess.

I'd be happy to turn over the lawn-mowing responsibilities to someone, though.

You are always welcome to open the door for me. I never minded that. In my mind that was a sign of respect and not a sign of I am better than you are from men. I think that area we women really screwed up.

I have never come across any female who goes nuts at men holding the door to them. I always smile and say thank you to any male who opens the door.
I personally think that there are some roles women and men are more suited for, that does not mean both genders aren't equal just that .... we're not the same.

We are not anywhere close to the same. I agree. Women and men are equal as humanity. We should have the same opportunities and options. Neither side should feel less because of gender.

I don't think I have rune into many women that had a problem with the doors being opened or even a chair being pulled out. I think it was just an excuse by some males to avoid doing the nice things that once were common place.

Agreed.
I don't understand feminism in the 21st century in the west. I can understand and encourage it in ME or Africa where women are still treated as lesser beings but in the west where the law is applied equally and women can vote and have a say over their own bodies. Isn't feminism useless?
