Powell cautions against a GOP slide to the right

Must be. You people can't seem to figure it out.

Did y'all ever consider moving to a country that has the same political views as you people instead of trying to steal this one? You don't like Cuba or something?

Did you not notice the latest elections? Apparently you should move you good ol' boy!!

Do the math bro. You're the odd man out.

Maybe you should look into relocating.

Ever heard that old saying, "Everyone in the marching band was out of step except Johnny."

Just sayin'....

I find it awkward that anybody would say this country isn't moving to the left.

1998 :

- After having won control of the House for the first time in 40 years in 1996, Republicans lose 5 seats in 1998. The worst showing in 64 years for a party that didn't hold the presidency.

2006 :

- Democrats once again become the majority party in the House(which they had been for 40 years before that) after only 12 years of Newt Gringich's 'Contract with America.

- As a result Bush becomes a lame duck president

2008 :

- Democrats get a near Filibuster majority in the Senate(are we still waiting on Franken?)

- 'The most liberal Senator' since John Kerry becomes President after running against a moderate like John McCain and a far right VP pick named Sarah Palin.

-------------------------------

And Truth Detector still doubt that this country isn't moving left? Would you like to buy some ocean front property in Nebraska?

Re: Hey Truth Detector, there just one line of truth

I see that not only do you NOT attempt to deal in coherent or substantive thoughts, but you also misuse the term "rant" in a deliberate attempt to provoke:

Main Entry: rant !rant
Pronunciation: \ ˈrant \
Function: verb
Etymology: obsolete Dutch ranten, randen
Date: 1601
Results
intransitive verb
1601
1. to talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner

2. to scold vehemently transitive verb

transitive verb
to utter in a bombastic declamatory fashion

Come back when you can do more than blather such uninformed provocative hyperbole.

You're a prime example of why the GOP is moving to a more moderate stance. Nobody in their right mind would want to say they belong to the same party you do. The belief is that if they edge towards the center enough you will go crazy and splinter off and form your own radical sect of the conservative movement. Based upon assessments of your current behavior, they predict it will eventually be declared a terrorist organization by the government and shut down. At that point the real conservatives can safely return to the public light without fear of being associated with your antics.

That's what I heard on Glenn Beck anyway. I think he called it Operation Truth Reclamation or something.

I don't guess you got the memo. We all swept the last election, we all outnumber y'all. And it's gettin' worse for y'all by the day.

Well, duh, we're Americans, naturally we know what has to be done to regain the trust and support of us.

No leftwing turd can credibly claim to be a real American, so how the hell would they know what's needed to gain our trust?

Ummmm....seriously. You need to turn off Fox, turn off Savage, put down the Ann Coulter novel, step away from the internet, and visit a zoo, or a park, or something. This is one of the most ludicrous statements I have ever seen posted on this forum.

Re: Hey Truth Detector, there just one line of truth

I see you also have difficulty distinguishing between provocative rhetoric regarding a candidate and provocative rhetoric attacking someone personally.

But you are welcome to show where my description of Obama was false or incorrect; he was a community organizer, he IS inexperienced and unqualified for the job per his OWN statements and his policies are Liberal and LEFT.

Dismissed; take your whiney diatribes to another thread.

I would suggest that you need to "dismiss" yourself if you can come with to criticize President Obama for is that he once was a "community organizer".

I believe that there was a little lady who lived in an Igloo who als o criticized candidate Obama for being a "community organizer". How did that work out for her, or her handlers!

That 's about all I have to say about your childish attempt to go one up on me!!!

You know something. I never realized how full this country was, of people that hated it for one reason or another, until I started posting here. Whether it be people that hate the Republicans for their actions, or Democrats for their actions, just about everybody thats politcally involved/aware seems to be driven by negativity towards their fellow Americans. Whether its people referencing the left as "libtards" or the right as "tea-bagging rednecks" the level of animosity people have towards each other, just because they merely espouse a different set of values is simply sickening. And its reflective in the media biases that portray our fellow Americans, as enemies of ourselves.

In some ways, we may be lucky a majority of the American public doesn't care too much for politics or gets that involved, save every four years. To get everybody drawn into this vortex of hatred and animosity would just create divides too deep to heal.

Already there my friend. The next steps would be armed civil conflict if you ask me.

:(

I don't know. I think awareness on our part, tends to lead us to believe everybody that voted democrat or republican is listening to either Rush Limbaugh or Keith Olbermann(or people of similar character). In reality, I think most of America hasn't partaken of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil as we have, and thus remain blissfully unaware of the dangers and pitfalls we all seem to see here. They still like their fellow Americans for the most part, and don't consider them to be mentally retarded, living in fear, or a different species of human all together.

Everything you brought-up, save foreign policy and immigration ARE fiscal policies. For immigration, anyone should be against making illegal citizenship harder.

EVERY policy is a fiscal policy, except for those retarded "history month" and "Happy Horn Dog Day" resolutions those idiots in Congress hand out like they're doing us a favor.

On Europe and NATO, I think you are naive to think that the U.S. can pull out over Iraq and be safe.

Hello?

I think your reading skills need sharpening.

I said pull out of NATO, didn't mention Iraq.

I said pull out of Europe, didn't mention Iraq.

The Shanghai Corporation Organization exists between Asian nations and Russia in order to balance the U.S.'s power. So if we do it your way and say, "up yours," to Europe, we will isolate ourselves to the point of vulnerability. Then you real men of war will have to watch the U.S. become marginalized economically and militarily.

"Up yours, Europe."

Sounds good.

They need to start kissing our ass, big time, because it wasn't their raucous moronic voices that kept the cossacks off the Atlantic shore, it was the US Army and a passel of nuclear bombs on this side of the Atlantic.

Did you not notice the latest elections? Apparently you should move you good ol' boy!!

Yeah. Saw that.

So what? A pack of liars and an incompetent Kenyan half-breed don't make a legitimate election, do they?

You're just seeing what Democrats are really like, is all.

They don't care if their canidates get into office by faking up some votes (Gore tried, Franken will apparently succeed). They don't care that the people they elected are perjurers, rapists, criminals, incompetents, and foreign nationals. They don't care that all the laws passed by these people they put into office are destroying the future of the country, they don't care that the laws being passed violate the Constitution.

They FEEL GOOD, and that's all that matters. Results do not matter to them, the (D) after the name is what counts to these people. George W Bush is inarguably the most liberal president we've had since Carter, and he signed into law an almost unlimited number of truly stupid, severely damaging left-wing legislation, and is the Left happy about this? No, because they don't care about the results, which they approve of, they're unhappy because the (R) guy actually had the gumption to stop Al Gore's attempt to steal the election and put a (D) in the White House.

THAT'S the kind of thing those suicidal fools base their emotions on.

Thank you for your post. You're one of the very few that "get it".

Both parties are big spenders, definitely the GOP needs to own up to its share of spending money it didn't have on hand.
I would rather we tax and spend than borrow and spend....

How did you win?
How did you win the last midterms?

Being honest?
Being forthright?
Telling people precisely what you wanted to do?

No.

Ferraro nailed Obama cold.
He is there now, but in reality it was hysteria and ignorance that got him elected.

As for the midterms?
All the wacked out leadership went into hiding.
You ran D's that were out of step with the party leadership.
You used Foley as a foil.
Then you brought Kerry out in the last minute and he fumbled on the 1 yard line.
Many in your party thought ugh-oh.

Once the circus acts are spent, what have you folks got?

Little to nothing.

You are the party of factions, not a coherent, time tested philosophy that works.

What cheap trick will you folks try next time in an effort to camouflage the truth with your willing propagandists?

Fineman: 'Mainstream Media Party' is over - Howard Fineman- msnbc.com

Yes we lost, but we lost because we don't have folks coming out and espousing conservatism. Once that happens, we'll be fine.

Until then, we'll have to watch the amateur hour circus act run the country.

Carter was good for the Republican party.
Obama... it is a little too early to have massive buyers remorse, but there are some already who have stated... this is not what I voted for.

I had no idea of the depth of your ignorance.

That's because you haven't been here that long. Although, you should have already figured it out by now.

Us old timers know and love Scarecrow. He's our "Five O'Clock Charlie." Harmless and entertaining.

Please be nice to our Scarecrow. :2wave:

What I stated is certainley not exclusive to Democrats, IMO. You can remove your thanks if you'd like, since it appears you interpreted what I said, in a manner I did not intend for it to be interpreted.

Neocon began to be used during the Reagan administration and resurged during the Bush administration to describe those who supported toppling the leadership of a nation in order to set-up a democracy. If we have been doing that since WWII, tell me what nations we invaded, occuppied and attempted to establish democracies in prior to Iraq.
You don't have to topple a country to spread democracy. Any time the Soviet Union tried to encroach on the US we fought them. NATO was formed to stop the spread of communism into Europe.

Wanting to spread freedom and democracy could never have a name associated with some sort of evil.

Neocon reminds people of the word "neo nazi" and has no meaning today other than to be insulting. Stop using it!

We never really succeeded either did we? Our best hope for Neoliberalism, which is exactly the type of policy this is, would be China, for they are the only country where real economic change is being used.

If it offensive then I will refrain, though I have heard many GOP describe themselves and party with the said term.

Thank you. In the last several years the word has become something along the lines of "libtard" or "repug."

I'll give you an honest answer. I think Powell supported Obama because Obama is considered to be an African-American.

And somehow that's ok?

Yeah...it couldn't POSSIBLY be because Powell, like most of America, thought Obama was clearly the better choice.

The reality is, the John McCain that ran is not the same McCain that really was a right-leaning moderate. McCain sold his integrity by pandering to the radical religious right. He lost the independents and moderates when he did that. He lost more when he stubbornly stuck to his assertion that the "fundamentals of the economy" were strong, when the rest of the country understood that we were in trouble.

No....Powell recognized that Obama was a better leader and better capable to lead this country. Yet...the Rush Limbaugh's of this country cannot accept that fact and continue to try to make it about race...as if a black person is incapable of making a well informed rational decision. But do you really expect more out of people like this?
