Liberty University Bans Democrat Club

Left leaning yes, but to claim they are the same as Liberty University as far as extremism is simply just rhetoric.

FIRE - Free Speech

The fact that it's in most cases not quite as extreme as at Liberty doesn't justify it. I'd like to think that we hold real schools to a higher standard.

I realize this is a private institution so they can do what they want, but I still believe a broader issue is going on here: the politicization of educational institutions.

My question was about whether the OP was really interested in the broader issues mentioned, "the politicization of educational institutions".

If the OP really was, wouldn't there be some mention of the real problem on faculties nationwide, instead of mention of an EXTRA-CURRICULAR club at a private university ?

Didn't Monica Goodling attend this school?

This is a step backward for this so-called Christian university.
Unless one considers intolerance and narrow mindedness as positive steps..
Not that I agree with either side on issues...I hope our public universities do not follow suit...some may of course, to an extent...

WTF is Liberty University??

Is it even a accredited school?

They require 'creation' studies for biology majors.:doh

See article

Okay... next.

The sad part there is the person teaching how bad evolution is does not understand it.

Liberty University "teacher" said:
“Which penguin gets eaten?” he asks. “The one that’s genetically inferior, or the one that’s in the wrong place at the wrong time?”

this of course leads to the question...do we really care what happens at Fruitcake U?

If they are running for elected office, yes...

If UC Berkeley banned the campus Republicans, then you'd have a story.

This one has about as much credibility as: "Evangelical pseudo-college gives devil the boot."

How can you just outright ban a Democrat club on these social fringe issues? It would be like banning the GOP club because you don't support war. As if the GOP never does anything "unchristian".
Haven't you been to a uni? They are already very political, at least in the humanities, although usually it is leftist stuff being put out. The amount of feminist, Marxist, Post-modernist garbage you have to wade through just to do basic things like history is absurd.

Half my lecturers seem to be outspoken leftists and there are no outspoken traditionalists or conservatives to me knowledge. And when you get to the clubs there is are at least two labour clubs, almost all the student council candidates seem to be leftists and such. Sometimes I feel like asking them how they feel about the high Tory vote.

I guess that pretty much takes the Liberty out of Liberty Un-University !!lol

I'll elaborate. There are many reasons to be Democrat or Republican and they don't all stem from these social issues. In voting for either party, you are going to end up voting for some policies you dislike. It's a two party system and neither is perfect.

I've met Christians who have accused the GOP of being "unchristian" and have voted against them for that reason, or not voted at all. I don't see why one group deserves to be banned from campus while the other is supported. It shows politico-religious bias to a sick degree.

I don't see how banning any kind of political discourse about one's nation is a good thing, especially in universities that are supposed to be about learning facts about many different areas. Liberty University is essentially grooming the campus to vote Republican and to me that amounts to political interference, something that the church is not supposed to be doing.

Should we now have "Republican Universities" and "Democratic Universities"? Forget which school has the best program, let's just enroll based on which party they like.

I agree with most of what you said but I would say that Universities/Colleges should above all teach the student how to think rather than just alone "learning facts about many different areas." not that learning facts is bad.

Left leaning does not mean it is taking away the rights of people.

Again, can you tell me a "left-leaning" college that has BANNED the Republican clubs like Liberty did? If not, your assertion that left-leaning is equated to taking away liberties is irrelevant, unlike this hypocritical named school such as Liberty University.

And can you show me in the U.S. where left-leaning universities have BANNED the Republican clubs like this abomination of a university has with the Democratic Club?

And before someone says they are a private school and have the right to ban whatever club they want, I am willing to be they couldn't ban an African American club.

Can you show me why I have to? He objected to politics in unis and I responded to that.

Well you seem to like to compare the Liberty University to others and there simply isn't no comparison.

Liberty University is restricting freedoms by banning the Democratic club, and other universities are not banning the Republican club.

There is no comparison, Liberty University is anything but Liberty.

No, I responded to something Orius said, you are making leaps.

Yes, you responded that you felt universities were political, yet they haven't banned clubs due to political views. However, this unfit Liberty University has.

Again no comparison.

Again no comparison.

You are right, there is no comparison.

What happens to an extra curricular club is completely irrelevant when contrasted with a real problem like the systemic leftism of faculty in State schools across the nation.

Conservatives having trouble getting tenure is a problem.

Some club ? Not even worth notice.

Did you have difficulty reading the rest of my post?

The fact that it's in most cases not quite as extreme as at Liberty doesn't justify it. I'd like to think that we hold real schools to a higher standard.

hope that sheds some light on that for you.

Can you think of a legal reason why political predilections are treated differently than racial characteristics?

The Gaggle : Liberty University Bans Democrat Club

I know it's an editorial but it stems from a real event. If someone can find a better article I'd appreciate it.

I realize this is a private institution so they can do what they want, but I still believe a broader issue is going on here: the politicization of educational institutions. I am forced to say that you're not responding to the politicization of American universities, not.

You're responding to the decision by one minor university that the positions held by the Democrats are not compatible with their private charter, an act that comes after more than forty years of unremarked leftist politicization
in all the major universities in the nation.

Actually, decisions of war would come under the shading of accepting that the people in authority are due obedience, which is also part of Christian doctrine.

This ain't Rome, the US government ain't "caesar", and no, they're not owed obedience if their commands violate the law.
